"Yes, we are Latin. Yes, we use WhatsApp. Yes, she sends me two-minute voice memos. Not this time," Pessoa says.
Ordering a cake from a bakery might seem like an easy task. One just needs to make a call to a bakery and ask if a particular cake is available and tell them what needs to be written on it. Then, you give them the address where it needs to be delivered. But what if something goes wrong in the process? That's exactly what happened with one TikTok user. However, it turned out to be a hilarious mishap and people couldn't stop laughing about it later.
TikTok user, Estefania 'Tefi' Pessoa—who goes by @hellotefi—shared a funny instance that happened at her mother's workplace. "Hi, so nice to meet you. My name is Tefi, I'm from Miami,” Pessoa says at the start of the video. "I've been living in New York for the past 10 years but my family is from Miami and I get many ridiculous WhatsApp messages."
She goes on to say that they are Latin. "Yes, we are Latin. Yes, we use WhatsApp. Yes, she sends me two-minute voice memos. Not this time," Pessoa says. "Let me share. Have you heard of Publix? Where shopping is a pleasure? Of course, you have. It's fantastic." Publix is a grocery chain across the Southeastern United States and is open in 850 locations in Florida alone.
She then shares a screenshot of a message that she received from her mother that reads: "The receptionist ordered a cake from Publix today and they asked her what the cake should say..."
At the end of the video, she shows the picture of the cake and what exactly the receptionist communicated to them. The receptionist told the bakery: "Just Happy Birthday is perfect thank you." To everyone's surprise, the bakery shop took the instructions quite literally and wrote "Just Happy Birthday is perfect thank you" on the cake.
Pessoa explained to TODAY how the mishap happened. "Every month, my mom's office does one big lunch to celebrate all the birthdays of the month," said Pessoa. The receptionist ordered the cake through the Publix app. While she was ordering, there was a box that said, "Write what you would like on the cake" and she wrote the message without thinking that the store would take it literally.
She said that everyone went to the breakroom to celebrate after the cake was delivered. "When my mom opened the cake in front of everyone, they were unable to sing 'Happy Birthday' because everyone was just dying from laughter."
The video went viral with more than 253k views. Many on the social media platform had a good laugh about what happened. @lacysmack commented, "Now they knew they were not supposed to put that one there." @danielledotgov wrote, "As a former supermarket cake decorator, I approve." @littleleobigcity shared, "The Publix cake ladies always crack me up. In HS in Miami, my friends got me a bday cake- my name is spelled Margaux they spelled it Nargaus." @metamaybe commented, "Please... that made me laugh out loud so hard."
