In the video uploaded by the professor himself, he can be seen waking students by belting out emo songs.
No professor wants to be standing on the other side of the podium just to hear a symphony of snores, especially when they are in the middle of mentoring a room full of students. However, it is pretty common for students to fall asleep during a lecture. Some professors feel the need to call them out, while others simply go on teaching without paying much heed. However, in a video uploaded by college professor Matthew Pittman–who goes by @matthewcpittman on Instagram–students can be seen holding their laughter. The professor goes about waking sleeping students up in the most creative way possible.
In the video, the professor can be seen startling three of his students with his special musical performances. The first, sitting in the front row, is woken up with a short performance of "Fall for You" by Secondhand Serenade, with the professor pushing his grown-out hair to his face to evoke an emo hairstyle. After this, the professor made his way through many students and woke up a student by singing Green Day's "Basket Case." The professor deliberately chose the line: "Do you have the time to listen to me whine? About nothing and everything all at once?" which made it even funnier.
Then, the professor went on to wake up a student by bringing out a megaphone to sing Blink-182's "I Miss You." While he was singing, another student reached out to pinch his nose, which made his performance all the more whinier. Pittman, who is an assistant professor of advertising and public relations, has gained a lot of attention online for his unconventional teaching methods in which he incorporates music to a large extent. The viral video has garnered nearly 42 million views and over 3 million likes.
People in the comment section were in splits. "The kid who did the nose pinched is a genius," wrote @that_guy. "I hope these students are just pretending to sleep at this point, just so they can hear him sing," added @_martinaxx. @zoes_story shared an anecdote from his college days, "One of my professors had a bag of balled-up newspapers and incredible aim across a lecture hall. Micheleo was a freaking legend." Others compared his energy with Jack Black from "School of Rock." "It's giving School of Rock... like he kinda looks like Jack Black," read a comment by @rocketscreams_ "It’s giving School of Rock but all grown up," added @miiadio.

Sometimes teachers and professors can leave a lasting impact on a student's life, be it with their unconventional teaching methods or simply their kindness. In one such story, a student, Isianna (@haiisianna on TikTok), shared about the time when her professor went out of his way to connect with the students. "Our professor invited the whole class to go for a hike and get lunch with him," the overlay text read. The first clip shows the two students who turned up waiting while the professor cooks some meat for the two of them. The next image shows the professor from behind with a cap, tracks, and a walking stick. The next image is of the professor sitting in what looked like a wooden gazebo, along with some fruits and canned beverages. Needless to say, the heartwarming outing arranged by the professor went viral and gained more than 13 million views.
