'Those cooks are MEAN'

A diner named Alana (@alanaaedson) is going viral on TikTok after discovering a brutally honest kitchen ticket note accidentally cross-printed on her final receipt. Typically, these notes are made by the restaurant staff for serving the table better and are supposed to remain private among the kitchen staff, but in this case the server’s vent ended up on the guest bill, exhibiting the frustration of the staff due to a particular set of items ordered. Alana’s July 22, 2026, video with the screenshot of this receipt has been viewed 3.8 million times and liked 173,600 times.
The receipt displayed a list of items she ordered, including cauliflower wings, Sea of Tranquillity beef, and a vegan ranch sauce. Between the list of items and the total amount of $35.88 at the bottom was the note “Sorry, they’re f***ing annoying.” As Alana guessed, it was likely their kitchen ticket note that got mistakenly printed on the receipt.

In most restaurants, the service staff typically ensures that their comments about the customer remain internal and private, but like this case, sometimes the point of sale glitches or oversight can result in these insults being inadvertently printed directly onto the customer's final bill. For instance, research published in the Human Performance Journal, cited by FOX News, reported that 79% of the restaurant staff make fun of customers behind the back, probably writing mocking character descriptions or complaints on kitchen tickets. Apart from this, 78% of the restaurant servers go on to lie or argue (43%) with the customers. 65% make them wait longer purposefully, and 52% mirror rude behavior back to the customer.

In the comment section, viewers speculated on different perspectives of the story and responded with mixed reactions. @nicholas_ssuk commented, “Vegan ranch means it’s dairy-free. They’re likely lactose intolerant and not vegan. How hard is that for people to fathom?” Referring to the mistaken print in the receipt, @brunellobabe said, “I help restaurants build Toast menus. That is one of the first settings I make sure is turned off.”
