No one wants to think about visiting an attorney and drafting a prenuptial agreement when they’re blissfully immersed in their wedding preparations. At this time, this document may seem like an inessential or perhaps superfluous task on the wedding planning list. However, given that it secures a marriage with the support of financial clarity, more and more couples are gravitating toward the trend of prenups. A woman named Joanna Dahlseid (@joanna.dahlseid), a prenup expert, recently posted a TikTok video sharing the most clever thing [she has seen] women put in a prenup" based on her experience dealing firsthand with couples preparing prenups.

Dahlseid, a 41-year-old woman, started the video by explaining how and why she became involved in her prenup work. "When I started doing prenup work, it was really because I had a divorce that I was consulting on, and the woman I was working with had a friend who was getting married. She said, 'Oh my God, you need to talk to Joanna.' So, a divorcing woman referred a woman getting married to me, and that's how prenup work was born," she said in the "Money Before Men Edition" video.

The prenup professional went on to share some of the most practical prenups she had seen during her career, with the emergency fund being one of them. "I always love a six-month emergency fund for a woman in a bank account with just her name on it in the event of a divorce," Dahlseid explained. Another example was from a woman who asked for a "tummy tuck," along with a nanny and house cleaning services.

"My personal favorite was the woman who asked for a tummy tuck and long-term support for child rearing during the marriage and post-divorce. Women take on so much responsibility and risk in a relationship. They should be able to benefit, have the support they need to thrive in their careers, as partners, and as mothers in and out of the marriage," she told Newsweek.

Another girl she worked with had invested in real estate money. “One gal that I worked with had real estate money that she was able to invest every single year and if the marriage came to an end she would get to take all of the assets and portfolios that she'd built up throughout the marriage because she had sold her house to move in with him and so she didn't have a place to live so she needed a lot of options,” Dahlseid described in the video.

Even though a prenup may sound relatively unromantic compared to other forms of financial protection, the way Dahlseid stressed its importance, prompted thousands of people to resonate with her. “[People] don’t understand, all marriages have prenups; it's just the standard government one,” commented @snackychips. In response, Dahlseid affirmed that a prenup “makes divorce a lot quicker sometimes.” Another woman, @lynniegenie offered a piece of advice, “Be smart ladies. The man you marry & the man you divorce are ‘two totally different people.’ Trust me. Secure the bag.”
