Gathering courage and having the determination to achieve big feats in life can help many people overcome challenges that may initially seem impossible. However, all it requires is taking the first step and relying on a leap of faith without considering the consequences. A child born with blindness did the same when the time came for him to experience his first curb. The boy, Gavin Stevens—who goes by @Gavinsgroupies on YouTube—was born completely blind due to a retina condition called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). He took courageous baby steps while walking across the sidewalk alone with the help of a cane.

In the video, Stevens is cheered on by his parents, who encourage him to walk through the curb. The then 4-year-old, who successfully navigated the sidewalk, represented a significant milestone for people across the globe struggling to face their worst fears. “Hey! Come on. Find the curb,” said his mother. His parents also seemed excited while recording their little one’s initial encounter with a white cane. “Where’s the curb?” Stevens shouted at the top of his sweet voice, still struggling to find the sidewalk edge.

But his parents were firm in their belief that their beloved child would find the curb. The visually impaired boy’s mom confirmed it by simply responding, “Find it on your own. You got it.” After his mom showed great confidence in him, the little one exclaimed, “I got it. I can do it.” Meanwhile, Stevens’s dad, who was not seen in the video, constantly motivated him in the background. “Yes, you can do it,” remarked the proud father. When Stevens asked for reassurance, his mom added, “You can do it, baby. Go ahead. You’re safe.”

As Stevens approached the curb, he carefully examined the surface, including its height, with his tiny cane. Additionally, the 45-second video showed him completing the task without any great difficulty. “Good job. So proud of you,” the proud mom said while patting her four-year-old’s back. The incident, filled with positive energy and willpower, originally took place in March 2013 when Stevens’ parents brought him a white cane for the first time. Moreover, the visually impaired child independently walked for the first time without anyone else’s support.

It involved him not only identifying the edge but also stepping down safely. Notably, Stevens didn’t let his incurable condition stop his desire to explore the world. The visually impaired boy’s mom found him full of life, with music and singing at the center of his soul. “He will be very happy when he does things independently for the first time,” Stevens’ mother said, per the Indonesian outlet LIPUTAN 6. The little one reportedly attended the Academy of Music for the Blind as one of the youngest students in Los Angeles.

After watching the video, people spoke of their admiration for Stevens in the comments. @vanillasky196 said, "I can almost imagine the mom getting teary-eyed, the way her voice cracks a little. Way to go mom! This Gavin boy will be one amazing individual in the future. I'm already a fan." @jimmylogan648 added, "I am crying because I am so proud of this boy that I never met. Thank you. Gavin, you have obviously great parents and you are an incredible little man that has inspired an old man so much!"
