“Being Mary Jane” actress Gabrielle Union has shared an inspiring video on her Instagram, featuring her and her 4-year-old daughter Kaavia trading affirmations. The video is receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from fans, many of whom have been moved to tears. In the video, Union and Kaavia can be seen looking into a mirror. Union begins the exercise by asking Kaavia what she loves about her hair. “I love my beautiful hair,” Kaavia replies. Union then goes on to list some physical features she loves about herself, including her full lips and freckles. “The Bring it On” star describes herself as “brave,” “scared sometimes,” “funny,” and “smart."

Kaavia appreciates that she has “beautiful skin” and eyes. “I am strong,” the little girl declares. “I am worthy.” Union agrees, saying, “You are worthy!” The exercise ends with Union and Kaavia exclaiming in unison, “I’m so beautiful!” Union captioned her post, “It starts at home.”

The video has garnered an outpouring of support from fans, including actress Kerry Washington, who commented, “Not not crying.” Actor Meagan Good added, “Why did you do this to me Gab… over here trying not to cry. So beautiful. You are a phenomenal Mommy and woman. K I’m done.”

Kaavia is a daughter of Union and her husband, former professional basketball player Dwyane Wade. Wade, who is also the father of Zaire, 21, Zaya, 15, and Xavier, 9, from previous relationships, has been a supporter of his children's self-esteem.

According to TODAY, Zaya, a model who came out as transgender in 2020, credits Union for helping to build her self-confidence. “It’s about being you and expressing yourself the way you want to,” Zaya told the DAZED magazine. “She tries to teach me that beauty standards are arbitrary and that they don’t mean anything. They don’t matter any more; what people thought was the standard is not. And just that being myself is the best technique out there.” Zaya also noted that her family is “such a giant support system.” “No matter what happens, I feel strongest when I’m with them,” she said.

The importance of building self-esteem and confidence in children cannot be overstated. Experts suggest that parents can foster a positive sense of self in their children by giving them plenty of love and affection, praising their efforts and accomplishments, and encouraging them to pursue their interests and passions. It is also important to model self-love and acceptance, as children often learn by example.

Moreover, Union’s video is a beautiful example of how parents can encourage their children to feel good about themselves and celebrate their unique qualities. By exchanging affirmations with her daughter, Union is teaching her that she is worthy, strong, and beautiful just as she is. It is a lesson that Kaavia will carry with her throughout her life and one that will help her navigate the challenges that inevitably arise.
