While trying to get it right and perfect, one forgets that the initial moments of motherhood should be about making memories with the baby.

The postpartum period can be difficult for mothers and getting help from family members and loved ones is a blessing in disguise. No parent, especially a new one, knows how to perfectly take care of their child, as they learn along the way with the help of others. TikTok mom Monica Murphy–who goes by @monica__murphy–shared a video that captured an endearing advice her mom gave her. She posted a video mentioning that her mum had come over to visit her and her newborn and while she was leaving, she said something priceless, which her doorbell camera captured. Though it is just a short bit, it spoke volumes to Murphy.

In the video, Murphy’s mum Nancy McCurrach is seen leaving her house as she says, “They’re never gonna remember if they had a clean house, they’re gonna remember how much you love them and hang out with them.” Murphy’s mum’s advice echoed in the new mom’s heart and she shared it with the hope that moms in need of invaluable insight will get their much-needed reminder.

Sharing more about why the advice touched her, Murphy mentioned in the caption that she was 4 weeks postpartum and even then, things were hard. She said, “My mom came to help out this week and she could tell I was stressed. I’ve been feeling the pressure to get back to doing all the things now.”

Murphy then mentioned how she would like to get back to working, completing her chores, getting on social media and more, along with fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother. However, every mother knows that it’s difficult to keep up with the immense attention babies require, especially in their infancy stage. “How on earth can one person do it all?” Murphy questioned. “I didn’t even express that I was feeling the weight of all this, but she just knew,” Murphy added. She then highlighted an important message every parent must hear on behalf of her mother, “It’s okay if all you did was keep happy children alive, snuggled them, played with them… You are doing the most important job of all.”

Murphy’s video went viral and garnered 2M views and over 295K likes. The advice from her mum seemed to be just the thing many parents needed to hear. With over 3K comments, many fellow moms shared the relief they felt after hearing the heartwarming message. @eansmith27 said, “This was the last thing my mom said to me 12 years ago. Stop taking life so seriously, enjoy it.” @tmoe321 said, “Thank you! Some of us mommas need mothers with wisdom like this. I needed this today, 3 days postpartum!” @banksthechow said, "Literally in this exact moment of life with you right now and struggling big time with the exact same thing. I so needed to hear this."

Other moms sent encouraging messages to postpartum moms who are in the gentle yet overwhelming phase of motherhood. @bari.veggie.mama said, “She’s right mama. Hang in there. That season comes and goes fast, but when you’re in there, it feels like you’re drowning.” @jenniferrosesilver added, “Your mama is right. I’m so thankful my mom was like this too. It gets better, I promise.”
