While growing up, an individual's mom can leave a huge impact on their perception of life and themselves. They carry the teachings well into their adulthood. Similarly, actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge's mom taught her how she can be anything that she wants to be on one condition and she is really grateful for what her mom told her. During her acceptance speech at the BAFTA Awards in 2017 for Female Performance in a Comedy for "Fleabag," the actress revealed what her mom had told her, per BAFTA's YouTube channel.

Waller-Bridge accepted the award and thanked everyone who made her success possible before she finally mentioned her mom, who was in the audience to watch her accept the award. "Most of all, I just want to say thank you to my mother," the actress began as the camera panned to her mother crying in the audience. "Who said to me, darling, you can be anything you want to be as long as you are outrageous." The mom continued crying as Waller-Bridge recounted what her mom had told her. As the mom smiled at her daughter, the audience erupted in applause and laughter. "And, thank you for that. Thank you so much," she continued as she took her award.

The caption to the video read, "Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge picks up the award for Female Performance in a Comedy at the BAFTA TV Awards." Many people congratulated the actress for winning the award in the comment section, but the part of her speech where she thanked her mother stood out the most. Many on the internet felt that it was a beautiful piece of advice to give to one's daughter.

@snikovsky wrote, "'You can be whoever you want to be as long as you are outrageous' is perhaps one of the most beautiful pieces of advice you can give to your kids." @gregs2244 commented, "'Darling, you can be whatever you want to be as long as you're outrageous!' If that's not the best motherly advice I've ever heard, I don't know what is. Just finished watching the 2nd season of 'Fleabag.' Can't wait to see what's next."

The clip was reposted on Instagram by Megan Dalla-Camina of Women Rising–who goes by @megandallacamina on Instagram. Dalla-Camina captioned the post, "Such an interesting perspective and way to be raised, when so often as girls we are told to be anything but outrageous. We are told to be quiet, invisible. Don't cause trouble; don't be too loud. We are told and taught and conditioned to be compliant."

Many people took to the comment section to share their perspectives. @jess_clare_ remarked, "She took that advice to heart and she became one of the most charismatic actors of our time - brilliant!" Another user joked, "My mother said you can be whatever you like to be as long as you earn some money." @shortymcawesome expressed, "My loud, silly and outrageous five-year-old self needed to hear these words from her parents. But she didn’t, so I get to tell her now. Funny, as I care-give for my aging mother who told me I was too much (not because I was or wasn’t, but all my mother knew was to conform). I am my bright, cheery, dreaming self and she has no say in how I show up for anyone."
