Cops turned up at a dog parent's house after his anonymous neighbor complained that he neglected his pet.
Animal welfare organizations work around the clock to protect the animals from abuse and neglect. They offer rescue, care, and advocacy, ensuring the overall interest of all animals. But what if we told you a pet parent had a narrow escape from the police after neighbors thought his dog was being neglected? Danny McCarthy from Maryland–who goes by @mrcolorblind1 on TikTok–was stunned when police and animal control officers arrived at his house to check on his dog, Nuko. It so happened that McCarthy's neighbor assumed that his Samoyed had been left outside the house for too long in the freezing weather.
"The cops and animal control both showed up at my house last night because someone reported an anonymous claim that we left our dog outside," he revealed in his video. However, after analyzing the situation and ensuring that McCarthy's dog was fine, the cops apologized. "When the cops arrived, they said, 'Oh! We are sorry! If we would have known that, we would not have shown up. This is kind of a waste of time,'" the pet parent added. Further, McCarthy couldn't resist teasing Nuko, who stood there, eyes locked on his "hooman" and tail wagging continuously.
"Nuko, you cold out here? Are you neglected? You poor thing!" he added. Notably, the Nuko's breed comes from Siberia, where they are often made to work in extremely cold conditions. Perhaps that was why McCarthy's adorable pet enjoyed its time outside the house. While talking to Newsweek, he revealed that he had no idea who had called the cops, but since they were so understanding, the situation turned hilarious. "I wasn't upset with whoever called, but if the cops had been less understanding, the entire situation could've turned out differently," McCarthy added.
His video quickly garnered popularity online with nearly 7 million views. He was stunned by the overwhelming response on social media. "I never expected the video to blow up on TikTok the way it did, but it's been awesome. Everyone seems to love Nuko, and it's been so fun reading everyone's comments on the situation," McCarthy shared with the outlet. A lot of people resonated with the incident and shared similar experiences.
@rissy0929 commented, "Our neighbor called on us because our husky was outside for over 30 mins. The cops showed up looked at her and said how long have you been fighting with her to come in. Me about 30 mins. We laughed." @userheatherleanne wrote, "I had a neighbor who called the cops because we had a pet bear in the backyard. It was our Newfoundland dog! My mom made fun of our neighbors for years after that!"
@d.littlekitten added, "I called animal control once on what I thought was a puppy whining and begging to go inside because it was snowing. They called me back after checking up to let me know it was a husky. I felt so bad." @k1ng.tavii wrote, "My friend has a husky he was in the snow for hours and the cops came and knocked and said 'Can we pet the dog? Also, your neighbor called but it's a husky so.'" @onetiredmama2507 urged people to be careful in judging pet parents and wrote, "Oh my God! People need to know dog breeds before they judge. Husky, Samoyed, Malamute, and other breeds love the cold and snow and prefer it."
