'I'm pissed because now I have no idea who received the fake update...'

An individual (u/awkward-clothes-1205) willingly revoked their mother’s involvement in their wedding after she quietly sabotaged their arrangements. A few months before the wedding, the couple sent out invites, expecting a stress-free journey to the altar. However, a confusing text from their aunt about the guest arrival time revealed that their mom had been secretly changing the timing for her side of the guests. AITA for taking my mom off all wedding planning after she mailed guests a different ceremony time without telling us?

The couple had asked guests to arrive by 4.30 for their wedding ceremony. However, the author's mom refused, saying it's too late for the older relatives who don't like driving after dark. "We looked into moving it earlier, but our venue has another event that morning, and 4:30 is the earliest they can guarantee everything will be ready," the author said. They believed the issue had been settled until a confusing text from her aunt arrived. She informed the author about receiving a small card with the message, “Updated wedding schedule: guests should arrive by 3:30 for a 4:00 ceremony.” Turned out their mom had crafted dozens of these cards and mailed them to the relatives on her side. When the author confronted their mom, she said she did that to prevent guests from turning up late at the ceremony.

While their mother thinks they’re overreacting, their father shrugged off the situation by saying they just need to re-inform the guests about the correct timing and move on.
The situation is tough but not rare. Such family dramas play out in most of the weddings. For instance, according to Zola, 42% of the couples reported that the biggest challenge they faced while wedding planning was family drama. Similarly, another survey by WeddingWire revealed that 81% of the parents are involved in the planning and arrangements of their child’s wedding, which implies they are also at the center of most of the choices. Like this person’s mom, one in four parents are put in charge of handling arrangements like vendors.

Reddit readers agreed with the author’s decision to remove their mother from the remaining wedding arrangements. Others suggested they be aware because she may try to sabotage other aspects of the ceremony as well. U/Shirazgirlo reflected, “You can remove her all you want; it’s not going to prevent her from going rogue and pulling another stunt.” u/Maryhadalittlelamb20 commented, “I would contact everyone on your mother's side and apologize, as you have just found out that she is concerned that you'll be late, so I gave you an earlier time. Isn't that what she did? Kick the ball back into her court!” u/gofigure844 said, “Make sure you also touch base with your vendors to reconfirm the schedule (dates, times, venue location, etc.).”
