The friend expressed to the bride that she wouldn't be able to afford all the expenses of being a bridesmaid at her wedding.
The bridal party does have the responsibility to help the bride on her wedding day, but can a bride ask one of her friends to take a loan for her wedding? Well, that's exactly what happened to a woman who admitted to the bride that she was finding the expenses to be a bit too much. The woman was left stunned when the bride—who is her her best friend—asked her to take a loan of $20k to be her bridesmaid. In a post that understandably left many in a state of indignation, TikTok user @mookiedookiedog shared the screenshots of messages she exchanged with her friend whose wedding she needed to attend. People in the comments section advised the woman to break all ties with the bride.
In the first screenshot, the woman wrote to her friend, "Hey..., are you available to talk this week? I really am just not sure I'm going to be able to afford everything. With the outfit and trips, we are nearing $20k, which is basically my student loan payment. I know how special you want this day to be, but is there any way we could reconsider some of the events and clothing?" The bride's response upset a lot of people. She replied, "Hey, girl. Uhm, sorry to say, but unfortunately, not really. And I did lay this out in my bridal party pdf. I'm not sure why it's such a surprise actually. I'm sure you've been budgeting for this for a while."
The bride claimed the woman was included in her wedding because she's her best friend and would represent her well for her big day. The bride then tried to persuade her friend to do what she desired. "I'd ask you to please just find a way to make it happen, you know? It's once in a lifetime. Don't you have a high-budget Amex? In a pinch maybe you could use that and figure it out late? Sorry, just don't really know what else to say?" she wrote. The woman also suggested that she could get her a loan of $20k with a little interest. She emphasized, "Would need to be paid back."
Even though the woman told her that she couldn't afford to spend so much for her friend's wedding, the next question from the bride would throw off anyone. She asked, "Are the girls planning something special to gift me at the bachelorette party? Just want to make sure you're thinking of it. No pressure! This is just the most stressful I've ever been planning this for everyone to enjoy and I really could use a treat." The friend captioned the post, "I'm seriously trying here, besties, but you might be right that I have to end this friendship, but I don't want to."
People were miffed with the bride's responses. @liv_c_603 commented, "I spent 3k on my wedding. Girl, you need to run from this bridezilla nightmare. She is no friend." @atro_buggie wrote, "The audacity to remind you about a nice treat for her is wild." @95jyg expressed, "As the others said, absolutely not. 20k is actually insane. No best friend would ask you to go into debt for their wedding." @ittybittycmte.ceo said, "Girl, please set boundaries for yourself and say no and end the friendship. She is a terrible person." @colorbykirsten commented, "This is crazy and her asking for a gift on top of it is insanity."
In a follow-up post, the woman also shared a document that the bride sent to the bridal party. She began the document by writing, "Let's be clear: this is my big day and everything needs to be perfect. I've spent countless hours planning every detail to ensure it's the fairy tale I deserve." She added, "Get ready for the wedding of the century! The theme is 'Luxe Boho Glam' - think boho vibes with a bunch of luxury." The bride mentioned everything from weekly check-ins, dress fittings and beauty routines that the bridesmaids need to follow. She also specified the cost of everything the bridal party had to pay.
She wrote, "It's crucial that you start your wedding beauty routine now. We'll be ordering customized beauty boxes from top brands like Drunk Elephant, Barbara Sturm, Dyson and Dr. Deenis Gross. Each box will be around $1200, and it's essential for our pre-wedding flow. Send me your credit card information and I'll have my brother organize the rest." She ended by writing, "Remember, this is my big day and I expect nothing less than perfection. Thanks for understanding and for being the best bridesmaids ever!" The woman also shared the wedding expenses in another video, which is now unavailable. She had sent her pictures of a $5940 Pamella Roland dress, $8500 Gianvito Rossi boots and an example of an "authentic diamond necklace" she wanted the bridesmaids to wear for her wedding, according to The Independent.
