Society sets very high expectations for women. They are expected to fulfill the role of mothers, daughters and wives before caring for their self. They are required to attend to their children and husbands by comprising personal needs. A Brazilian reporter—who goes by @sinomar_reporter on TikTok—highlighted this through a now-viral video. In the clip, a woman is seconds away from finishing a marathon when her kids run in the middle of the track to hug her.

The kids were standing with their father and instead of stopping them from interrupting their mom, he stood by to watch them run to the track. However, the woman did not let this affect her performance and avoided the children by a big leap and finished the marathon. She is overjoyed upon reaching her goal and embraces her trainer Luciana Grandi Lourencao. The footage is from the Presidente Half Marathon in Brazil, which took place on Sunday, May 5. It is not known if the husband intentionally let the children go to their mother at such a critical moment. However, the whole situation left people on the internet miffed

People in the comments section applauded the mom for prioritizing herself in that moment. @essey.0 commented, "Search bar: 'Marathon woman skips her kids,' but not 'man let his kids run into a marathon.'" @stargirl12265 also shared their disappointment. "This is a really good example of the subtle way that some husbands treat their wife's serious commitments outside of family life, like a joke or not serious, or just 'for fun.'"

@kittamariee expressed, "He's trying to remind her that he and the kids are all that matters. No matter how much she accomplished. And I'm glad she chose herself." @sundazedandconfused applauded the woman.  "I love that she seemed unbothered by his behavior and was still able to finish and celebrate." @signthedeed said, "How did that make sense to him? She's about to finish. Someone's behind her. She's timed wait like 30 more seconds..wasn't that obvious?" @cerises_acides said, "Today was about her. I know it's confusing for many men, husbands, fathers, and even children, but sometimes, she's going to be the main character…and you should play the supporting role."

In another similar story, a wife stood up for herself when her husband reacted badly when asked to look after their daughters on his day off. One day, the woman wanted her husband to be with the kids while she ran some errands. She had to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to update her ID and take her 4-year-old to the pediatrician. Even though the man knew about it, he got agitated. "He asked if I was taking the kids with me to the DMV. I said no and he went, 'Ugh! Really?' Which I didn't respond to," the mom said. The husband then angrily said, "Well, I can tell you right now, if I'm watching your kids all day, we're not going to be looking at houses tonight."

The mother was shocked to hear that and told the husband she would take the kids. Also, she shared that this was not the first time her partner had reacted this way. She added that she usually involved the kids in the errands but didn't take them along when it was for an appointment. She said the man got his time when they were running the errands. "But the comments and huffs when I have to leave them home are infuriating, and I have told him that. Even if I plan things during the baby's nap, he'll still say something like, "'Well, what if she wakes up before you get back?' Like, okay? Are you not her dad?" the woman said.
