The homeless person built a shack-like space to live in until a careless family destroyed the place.
A person's home, no matter its size, is their sanctuary, deserving respect and privacy. Reddit user u/Extracheesybroccoli, who lost his job and faced homelessness, built a small shack in the woods to survive. Shockingly, a family took over his home without permission one day, turning it into their campsite. He vented his frustration in a now-viral Reddit post, where people from around the world offered support.
He wrote in the post, “I am homeless because of a few unfortunate events—a medical issue that took away my career and a bitter divorce. I have a decently hidden campsite in the woods; to be fair, it's more of a hobo shack.” He explained that on a Canadian holiday, the woods were crowded with visitors. He stepped out for some air, and when he returned, he found that someone had entered his home without permission and made themselves comfortable.
I came back not even half an hour ago and went by my shack. What do I find? Parents with their little demons at my shack. They were playing inside my shack,” the post read. He acknowledged that living in the woods with a camp-like setup doesn’t offer the best security and privacy. “But who in their right mind would ever even approach a shack like that in the woods?” he wrote. Feeling uncomfortable and to avoid causing a scene, he left and waited for the family to leave.
When he returned, he found that the family had ruthlessly trashed his home and left without acknowledgment. “I just got back. They had left and they trashed the place. They let their kids trash my camp. They messed up my bed, tossed my canned food and dumped my cooler (I had some meat I was planning on having for dinner). They just dumped everything,” he shared. “I like to live clean. Yeah, I live in the woods, but I still have some pride." In follow-up comments, he revealed this wasn't the first time such an incident had occurred.
He also revealed that people also steal from him while lodging in his home without permission. People apologized on behalf of the family and called out their malignant behavior. u/JewelQueen1963 wrote, “I am sorry you are experiencing all of this. So many people in the world simply have no capacity for compassion or empathy.” u/TemporaryAnalysis55 said, “Those people sound disgusting. I don’t care if it’s a camp or a mansion, you don’t just let yourself into someone else’s home, let alone vandalize it.” u/Lady_R_remarked, “The fact that the parents were there and letting them do it, boils my blood. There's zero excuse to behave that way.” Everyone agreed that even though the man lives in a make-shift house, it doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve basic respect and dignity.
