When it comes to pranks, it is very easy to hurt a person even if that isn't your intention. What one individual thinks is harmless can stir a deep trauma within the other person and make them react in ways that aren't worth a few laughs. A woman who goes by u/Far_Specific_3005 on Reddit found herself in such a situation when her husband pulled a prank on her that reminded her of a traumatic incident from her teenage years. She was really emotional afterward and wondered if she overreacted.

The woman revealed in her post that she and her husband have been married for five years now. She shared, "Way before we met, when I was 16, my mom’s house had a house fire that burnt literally everything down and sadly my childhood cat was also killed in it." The 24-year-old continued, "I remember my mom and brother waking me up screaming 'Fire, fire, get up, get up!' We crawled out under the smoke and luckily my neighbors had already called the fire department and they pulled us out." The family lost everything in the fire and was devastated by what happened. "So that was a while ago but it still really scares me, and I check outlets and our stove and candles and everything all the time. My husband knows this about me," the woman shared.

One night, the woman—who was 34 weeks pregnant and very close to giving birth—went to bed early. She wrote, "I was sleeping for a while before for some reason, my husband decided to wake me up by yelling 'Baby! There’s a fire! Fire, fire, fire! Get up!'" The woman got up as soon as she could in her state and grabbed her purse. "I was just in automatic shock and just autopilot and knew I needed what to grab. I made it all the way down the stairs, yelling for my husband to follow me before he started laughing and telling me it was a joke," she recalled. The woman stood in the middle of the stairs trying to process what had happened as her husband laughed and helped her down the rest of the stairs.

"I sat down on the couch and just started sobbing. It was genuinely the hardest I’ve ever sobbed, it’s like I couldn’t get myself to stop and my whole body was shaking," she expressed. Her heart was racing and it was getting difficult for her to breathe. The woman got really upset after that. "My husband apologized and was like 'Oh my god, I’m sorry, it was just a joke.' I just cried until he eventually was like 'What the f*** it was just a prank, this is really dramatic,'" the woman shared. "After a few hours, I had calmed myself down and went to apologize to him. He wouldn’t take it. He said I was being over dramatic and made him feel like s*** for a harmless prank," the post concluded. The woman added that she has always been a little sensitive.

People took to the comments section to support the woman. u/impressionistfan wrote, "The stress and adrenaline could have sent her into early labor. The woman should let him know his 'prank' endangered her and the baby. Dramatic for crying? He’s lucky he’s still breathing after pulling that despicable stunt." u/Impressive_Ask_3014 commented, "Can we talk about the fact that he scared her and her first reaction was to apologize? Absolutely was groomed. Absolutely was a response conditioned by a manipulator to a person too young to know better. An older woman would've told him to f*** off and sleep on the couch until HE apologized."

u/IAmTheLizardQueen666 shared how such scares can impact the pregnant woman and child: "I believe that I was poisoned en utero by my mother’s cortisol levels. I’m 67 freaking years old now. I have IBS, PVCs and an attachment disorder. Thanks, Dad."
