Losing a child can be the most heartbreaking experience for a parent. However, remembering them and doing something special in their memory can become a source of comfort over time. A mom named Melissa–who goes by @xo_mel on TikTok–found a wholesome way to honor the memory of her daughter, who died when she was five months old. "Come with me as I go buy someone's birthday cake in honor of my late daughter," she says in the video.

She continues, "It's July 2, 2024. My daughter, Amiya Nadine, was born on July 2, 2010. She'll be 14. Well, she is 14 today." The mom shares that her daughter lived for five months and there was no better way to honor her daughter than buying a birthday cake for someone. Melissa looked quite emotional talking about her daughter and wanted to find someone close to 14 years old or a little girl to gift the cake to. She first went and bought a card from a supermarket and wrote a heartfelt note on it.

She wrote, "It could be weird that a stranger bought your cake, but it's so special to me. On July 2, 2010, my daughter, Amaya Nadine, was born. She lived five short months on this Earth. But she was the most beautiful sunflower ever. Today is her 14th birthday. In honor of her, your cake is on me today. Happy birthday. Have the most beautiful birthday. Love, Melissa." After this, she went to a Publix supermarket and asked the staff, "Do you have any birthday cakes being put up today for a little girl that I can pay for?" She clarified that she wanted to pay for it as it was her late daughter's birthday.

The staff, moved by her story, helped her find a cake for a girl named Emma, who was going to celebrate her 14th birthday. With teary eyes, Melissa said after paying for the cake: "It's Emma's 14th birthday also. Happy Birthday to you also, Emma! Enjoy the day! I had the whole bakery crying." The video was captioned, "Que the tears. I told myself I would keep the crying to a minimum today. Amiya Nadine would be 14 today — my angel baby. I hope you enjoy your cake, Emma." People were emotional after seeing how the mom had chosen to honor her late child.

@itsjmeclarke commented, "'I had the whole bakery crying.' Girl, you got the whole dang internet crying! You're amazing for doing this!" @coconutz60 wrote, "The sunflower card and the little girl is 14 too... your daughter was definitely with you today." @momof3nv shared, "I'm crying with you! Today is my daughter's 14th birthday! The crazy thing is, my daughter was going to be a twin and we lost one very early in the pregnancy. Her name was Emma."

@thespicemelangemaker expressed, "A sweet family did this for us this past year for my son's first birthday. We honored the life of their daughter at his party and we will every year going forward. That small gesture meant the world." @kleighanneserrato said, "We do this every year for our daughter who passed as an infant. And I cry every year, but I swear it makes me so happy to give to a family and child. We do as many cakes as she would turn every year."

In a follow-up video, Melissa shared that Emma's mom contacted her on Facebook. "She sent me a super heartwarming message about how they feel so honored about what I did on Emma's birthday," Melissa says in the video. "So when they did it that evening, her mom made a video and made a cute little TikTok with the cake and the fireworks. And it said, Happy Birthday, Emma and Amaya! And it was just so nice. I will never forget that little girl, let me tell you. I will never forget it."
