As many first-graders were crying about learning the spellings of 'sight words', the P.E. teacher imparted some crucial life lessons to them.
In recent years, the concept of gentle parenting has gained momentum and even school teachers follow the method to handle unruly kids. But at times, people feel that showing tough love could be the best way to teach the most important life lessons to kids. So, when a P.E. teacher handling first-grade kids at a school in Memphis, Tennesse posted a video of his harsh speech to the children, many praised him instead of criticizing him. The teacher, who goes by @BigBook6065 on TikTok, shared a powerful message for the student in his speech in a video that has gained over 700K views.
Beginning his speech on a serious note, the teacher said that the students' acts were "completely unacceptable." He strongly pointed out that he had zero care for the students shedding tears over learning "sight words" like January, February, and so on. "You all are growing up in Memphis, Tennesse," the teacher said and added, "The reason all this crime and whatnot is going on is because all these criminals out here don't know how to spell. They don't know how to read. They don't know how to write." The P.E. teacher didn't want to see any children at his school not knowing how to read, write, or spell. "We're too old not to know how to spell 'January,'" he said.
The teacher emphasized that though some adults are not so educated, he wanted to ensure that the future grown-ups that he "raised" must know how to spell, read, and write. "All this crying, it ain't going to work," said the teacher in a harsh tone and added, "Mrs. Burton will give y'all a test tomorrow on the days of the week and months of the year and you need to know how to spell it." He refused to fall for the "panic attack" that the kids had over spelling the words. "Crying doesn't solve anything. It only makes life harder," he said. The teacher told the students that when they were done crying, they still couldn't spell because they wasted their time crying.
It's not just about spelling the words, the teacher also insisted that the first-graders must learn the basics like addition, subtraction and how to tell time. "I'm not sending any more people out in this world robbing, stealing and breaking into cars. I would hate to see y'all on the news," the man said. Even the way he silenced those kids who interrupted him was strict but he didn't want to stop his advice. He made it clear to the kids that school was not the same as their house, where parents yield to their crying. "For the next person that cries, this size-17 shoe is going to meet you at the door," the teacher said loud and clear and the first-graders yelled, "Yes, sir."
"My first graders mean the world to me but, Lord, they are thinking that their tears will move me! I want the next generation to be better and it has got to start somewhere!!" the teacher captioned his clip and people loved it. "I work at a college and trust me we’re starting to feel it. So please, please, please let these children know!" commented @haksksjskkssjjskak. "I have 8th graders that read and write like they are in 1st grade. We need more people like you!" wrote @dare2bbold. "Memphian here! Thank you for caring about these babies," commented @mirandafaye01.
