All their loved ones gasped as they made the announcement at the event.
Weddings often come with meticulous planning, emotional moments, and plenty of surprises. When 25-year-old Yewon Kim and 29-year-old Nicholas Yeoh invited their closest friends and family to an engagement party, no one expected they would be leaving as witnesses to a wedding. Kim shared this moment on her TikTok page (@yewon____kim) with the caption: "POV: you planned an engagement party but came home with a new last name." The video showed guests gasping and cheering in unison, and photos by Ria Maglinao of Curated Street (@curatedst) captured stunned reactions and joyful embraces.
The couple got engaged on May 6, 2024, and were planning a destination wedding in Europe for 2026, according to PEOPLE. But after learning that many loved ones might not be able to make the trip, they came up with another plan. On March 15, they hosted a gathering at Lawson Flats in Perth, Australia, under the impression it was a simple celebration of their engagement. The couple invited 60 close people, including friends and family. "We wanted to make sure that the important part of us coming together was witnessed by all of our important people," Kim said, per the outlet. Thirty minutes into the party, they made the announcement.
First, they revealed plans for their future wedding in Europe. Then, Kim and Yeoh told the room, "But we wanted to give you a preview, so we're just going to get married today." The room fell silent in shock before guests erupted into cheers and shouts of "OMG." A second wave of excitement followed when they added that they would return in ten minutes in their wedding attire. The wedding's theme was styled as an art gallery and held in a ballet studio. Kim and Yeoh decorated the space with photographs documenting their relationship from their first year of dating to the proposal.

The couple's story began in church, where Kim said their working relationship started rocky. After reconciling, they grew close and eventually fell in love. Kim said, "We figured we actually like each other as people, and the rest, as they say, is history." Also, she shared that their friends know them as "that couple" who always had anniversary photos, and the setting reflected that part of their journey. The video received nearly 60,000 views, and people joined in the celebration. @lozpez12345 commented, "Congratulations. So beautiful and so much love." @zen_will wrote, "I don’t know ya’ll but am so happy for ya’ll! I love this!" @liawebbmc added, "So beautiful! Congratulations."
The moment became even more memorable when Kim, who is the co-founder and art director of Openbook Studio, posted about the day’s events online. Kim was recently featured in the January issue of British Vogue, as she shared on an Instagram post and reflected on how that milestone held special meaning. "I didn’t even dream of ever being in Vogue, let alone as a bride. Being in my bridal season, a lot of people have asked me, 'What kind of wedding dress did you dream of when you were a little girl,' and to be honest, I don’t have an answer to that because I was the girl playing with fire trucks and climbing trees and often got mistaken for a boy lol," she wrote in another Instagram post.
