Our minds tend to associate certain emotions and feelings with some of the favorite songs that we grew up listening to. And so, for many present-day adults who are parents, listening to music from the '80s can bring back many fond memories and even a few dance moves from the era. There has been a new trend on TikTok where children ask their parents to dance like it's the '80s. They play the 1984 song "Smalltown Boy" by popular British pop band Bronski and then record their parents' funky moves.

Leanne Lynn, a 57-year-old mother, spoke to TODAY.com about how "muscle memory took over" when she heard the song. Her daughter, Tabatha Lynn (@tabathalynnk), posted her mom's performance, after which it gained 8.8 million views and 1509 comments on the social media platform. In the video, the mom was initially taken aback as she heard the song but quickly began to groove to the beats. The text overlay read, "I asked my mom to dance how she danced in the '80s."

Many others continued to jump on the trend, one of them being Valeria Martinez (@lavaleritaaa), a 23-year-old who said that she had a newfound "appreciation" for her mother, Yeane Velaquez, who also did the trend. Her video has managed to amass 12.2 million views and 11.2K comments so far. The text overlay on the wholesome clip read, "Asked my mom how she would dance to this song in the 80s." Her mother only takes a few mere seconds before she starts to passionately dance

The trend is not exclusive to mothers and daughters, as Vanessa Tonacci (@veeantonacci), 29, and John Tonacci, 67, have also put together a fun video that documents the dad's moves. Their video has also amassed an impressive 4.3 million views on the social media platform. Unlike the other two videos, the dad in the video is already a few steps into the dance routine at the start of the video.

@mindyfitlife said, "I'm sorry for anyone who did not get to live through the 80's. It was a magical decade!" Another individual, @jomarie_is_disturbed1985, commented, "The one thing that I absolutely love the most about this trend is seeing all the parents go back in time." @thebrymarc expressed, "Before cellphones, people would go to clubs and 'actually' dance! Doesn't surprise me he can crush it like he did."
