The teacher shared how no one had ever told her to do such a thing ever before the incident and it was shocking.
Many teachers willingly go out of their way to help parents and children with things that aren't a part of their job description. But sometimes parents end up expecting things that would need a teacher to put in a huge amount of extra hours and effort. So, much so that they're forced to take a firm step back. In a similar situation, Katie Larson—who goes by @ktlarson27 on TikTok—had to firmly say no to a parent who expected a huge favor from her.
"Okay, so I have a good one today," Larson began. "Yesterday a parent asked me for a class list so they can invite all the kids to the birthday party and I am invited to the birthday party too." She expressed, "Very nice. Said no problem. Today a stack of invitations came." The teacher added, "I was like, I guess I'll just put these in the mailboxes later. So, no problem, we are outside all day, the last 20 minutes of the day. I was going to do it." The woman would stuff the invitations and send out the envelopes as none of them had been stuffed, but she was okay with that.
She got ready to put them in the mailboxes at the end of the day and opened them. "Only the first invitation was written on. None of the rest," the teacher shared. "That parent messaged me during the day with the information and I thought that it was for me because I was invited." Larson revealed that the message said that she was expected to write all the invitations and send them to all the students. "I responded that I can't write all these invitations out and sent them home with the class list," she explained. "Nope, not what I can do," the video concluded. Through the caption, the teacher explained how it was a "new one" for her and she had never been asked to do such a thing before this.
The video received over 754.1k views and more than 26.2k likes. People took to the video's comments section to support the teacher and expressed how it was not fair for someone to expect such a huge favor from someone who is already overworked. @shoppergurl shared, "Due to privacy reasons we aren’t allowed to give out a class list. Also, we tell the parents they can stand outside the classroom and hand out the invitations at the end of the day. Not our job." @hands_in_the_mitt expressed, "The fact that parents think teachers have time to address and stuff party invitations. We don’t have time to use the bathroom, ma’am!"
@jamieee2460 disclosed, "I had a parent show up with party bags, party games, party food and ask when their child’s class party was scheduled so they could come back for it." @amyatkinsalonai commented, "This happens all the time with valentines. They just send in a sealed box of Valentine cards and expect teachers to write names on them and stuff them in envelopes." @bbfu7714 wrote, "Same thing happened to me! And then the day of, the mom sent an email to me canceling the party and told me to tell the kids and their parents to just drop off the presents on the front porch."
