When a parent saw the feedback on their child's homework, they were furious — not because their daughter performed poorly, but because instead of the teacher, ChatGPT had written the review. At least that's what it looked like to them. The parent (u/cuppakush) posted the story on Reddit on October 29, 2025.

"Great job using Harvard referencing — most of your sources are in the right format, and you included all the types you needed," the report read. The parent suspected that the teacher had presented them with a ChatGPT-produced text due to the tone and especially the use of em dashes in the report. "Your report is really well organized, with clear sections and a logical order that makes it easy to read. You did a solid job explaining the laws and how they connect to your chosen role, but think about how you could go deeper with your analysis," the feedback mentioned. Another reason why the parent was sure that the teacher had used an AI prompt for the report was the variant spellings of certain words. "It's full of Z's when we use S in England. There are random bold words — the same as ChatGPT. The hyphens. The entire tone of voice. It’s really f****** obvious," the parent explained. The report further mentioned that the evidence the student had provided to support the ideas was mostly well-researched, but could be improved. "You stayed within the word count and used your space wisely to share detailed information," the feedback added. In the end, the report mentioned that the student needs to work on two things: Making her analysis even stronger and interrelating evidence with the core ideas better.

Surprisingly, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer limited to students; Now, their teachers also use it to make their tasks easier. In fact, the 2024 EdWeek Research Center survey found that nearly a third of teachers use AI tools, but the number of those who use AI for grading is smaller. Moreover, they found that among those teachers who use AI, 13% rely on it to grade low-stakes assignments, and 3% use it to grade high-stakes assignments.

The Reddit post had over 3k upvotes within the first 24 hours, with many suggesting that the parent must complain about the teacher. For example, u/oneIastchance said, "Teachers used to say, 'Don’t copy from the internet'; now they are the internet." u/calgeorge wrote, "This is a little more than mildly infuriating. I'd be letting that teacher know, as politely as possible, that if I wanted to learn from ChatGPT, I could do so for $20 a month, and for what I'm paying for this tuition? I expect to be instructed and graded by a human being, and if they can't agree to that, I'll be filing a complaint with the school administration."

AI slop should be banned for teachers, too." u/waitpanda wrote, "This is what you get in systems that don't reward or prioritize teaching. The system rewards obtaining grants, research (publications), etc. The only check on teaching is often student reviews, which are generally good if grades are good. Successful professors often invest very little time in teaching." u/mariosunny said, "That feedback is next to worthless. This phrase in particular, 'You could work on making your evidence even more connected to your ideas,' is a meaningless statement without concrete examples." u/increaseafter commented, "I’m weird, but I enjoy grading and giving students constructive criticism. If you outsource that to AI, what are you actually doing?"
