Stray dog snuck onto construction site to have her puppies and then moved in with the new family

From homeless to the heart of the house, Splenda proves that people don't pick dogs; they pick them

They say you don’t always choose the dog; sometimes, the dog chooses you. That was exactly the case when a weary stray wandered onto a dusty, active construction site, silently deciding that this half-built structure would be her forever home. As the house was constructed, so too was her story. This journey was documented by Tofu's Pack PH (@tofupackph) on TikTok, particularly in a clip posted on May 11, 2026, which has garnered over 437,000 views and 76,000 likes.

The silent choice

Before the blueprints of the home could ever come to life, a stray dog wandered onto the raw construction site. As the build began, the dog, now named Splenda, became completely tied to the pace of construction. When the owners laid the foundation, right along that concrete milestone, the dog gave birth to seven puppies. All of a sudden, the worksite became a bustling nursery.

Battling against the odds

Though most of these puppies found loving forever homes elsewhere, three of them couldn't find one. Thankfully, the owners officially claimed them, offering them a peaceful indoor life. However, the journey took a challenging turn just as the house began to take its shape. While the team "finished the walls," the resilient canine was quietly fighting a battle for her life. Thankfully, the owners stepped in, and she was finally about to survive a grueling bout with Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) cancer.

A second sanctuary

While the final stretch of the build went on, Splenda was gearing up for another beautiful surprise. "We laid the floors," the owners shared, a milestone that coincided with the dog defying all odds once more as "she gave birth again." By the time the dust settled and the interior was polished, she had already raised two generations of puppies right there at the job site.

The forever home

The ultimate transition came when the physical work ended, and the house officially became a home. The family moved in, but that didn't mean Splenda and her puppies had to move out. Instead, they moved in with them simultaneously. In fact, they later revealed that her status was never in doubt as "she just never left," transitioning seamlessly from a stray to the true heart of the household. Till now, Splenda and the cats continue to live happily alongside Andi, the first-ever stray the family adopted. There's also Cookie, Tofu, Stevia, and Coco.

Millions of pets get adopted every year

Each year, millions of dogs and cats are adopted in the U.S., just like Splenda and her kids. According to the ASPCA, in 2025 alone, nearly 5.8 million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescue homes. Surprisingly, out of these animals, around 4.2 million were adopted into loving homes. However, despite this seemingly high number, it wasn't enough to alleviate the burden on shelters, as the amount of time it takes for animals to be adopted has been increasing every year for the past five years.

They blessed the owners

Amid this, the people were impressed with the owner's gesture. @flxfelicis wrote, "Splenda and her pups are the best 'pampaswerte' for your house. God bless you po." Meanwhile, @mjcee04 commented, "You are so blessed, and you will forever be blessed because of your kindness. Thank you for giving this mama a home."
