He was on a short weekend trip packed with activities, so he "splurged" a little and chose a window seat in the emergency aisle. The man wanted more space so he could be less sore when he landed. However, an hour later, an old woman approached him and asked if she could take the empty seat beside him, and he agreed. The woman immediately took the aisle and middle seats and turned them into a bed, taking away the author's extra leg space. Furious, the man called the flight attendant, and what happened next is comedy gold. The now-deleted post was shared on September 7, 2026, and it has received 12,000 upvotes.
The intruder
The man had specifically booked a window seat in the emergency aisle, since the basic seats were too congested. Seeing the middle and aisle seats empty, he became happy with the extra space. But that changed an hour later when an old woman asked if she could take the empty seats. "Even though I did pay extra, I didn't really have a problem with it, so I said, 'Go ahead,'" the author said. He assumed the old lady would take the aisle seat, but instead she pushed his belongings towards him and lay down on both seats. She even used his armrest as a pillow.
The sob story didn't work
When the author confronted her, she told him, "how tired she is, how sore she is, and how she really needs to lie down." Unwilling to put up with the random woman's nonsense, he got up and informed the flight attendant. He specifically told her that a woman was sitting in seats for free. The flight attendant immediately brought over the payment terminal and asked her to pay for the two seats if she wanted to remain there. The woman tried to repeat her sob story to the attendant, but was told to use her credit card to pay instead. When the senior woman realized her sob story didn't work, she got up and returned to her assigned seat.
Seat-swapping
Most flights have annoying passengers who test everyone's patience. In this case, it was the old woman. A PhotoAiD survey found that 89% of American passengers believed people should only swap seats if they have a good enough reason. Among these, 37.8% ''strongly agreed'' that passengers should stay in their booked seats except in emergencies. However, a small 0.6% said that passengers could move from one seat to another without any proper reason. The old woman's "emergency" was a sob story. Had she really been tired and sore, she wouldn't have minded paying for the seat.
'Entitled behavior'
