In an August 20, 2026 Reddit comment, u/loony-cat shared the story of a former co-worker who married the woman about 20 years ago. Only three months into their marriage, she left him to stalk her former boyfriend, who was traveling across the country with his wife and family. The act landed her in jail. By the time she returned, her husband had already married another woman. The story has amassed over 11,000 upvotes.
An unrequited pursuit
The story was shared as a response to a post in which Reddit user u/yourpussydestroyerr asked people about the “dumbest reason you have heard for a couple getting divorced.” The author recounted how their former co-worker’s former wife prompted an unlikely divorce with her rash actions. But maybe it was clear from the beginning. She had married their co-worker because she wanted to be married, not because she was in love with him. Rather, she loved her ex-boyfriend, to the point of obsession. The problem was that her ex was happily married and had no interest in rekindling their relationship. She was beyond reasoning, and there was no stopping her.
When love destroys
Her obsession landed her at the point of no return when, only three months into their marriage, she left her husband. She learned that her ex was traveling across the country with his wife and family. He left her husband devastated and depressed and set on an impulsive chase. A year went by, and her husband received the news that she had landed in jail for stalking, harassment, and trespassing into her ex’s house. Police caught her sleeping on the couple’s bed while they were away.
Chasing the wrong person
Before she left, the couple had already been discussing divorce. She pressed him to proceed with it, while he wanted to wait and give their relationship more time. A few years later, after returning from jail, however, she wanted to call off the divorce. By then, it was too late: her husband had married another woman. He remained “incredibly worried” about his family and provided his ex-wife's pictures to workplace security, ensuring she was barred from the office. Days later, she was arrested again at the home of her ex's parents.
When love turns obsessive
