Environmental non-profit Earthjustice published the group's statement condemning the President's anti-climate policies.
While United States President Donald Trump was getting pumped up to deliver his annual State of the Union address, nine environmental groups were thinking about the state of our environment. In a damning statement, the groups came together to declare Trump the worst President for our environment in history, EcoWatch reports. This, of course, does not come as a surprise to anyone. The President infamously withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement and has rolled back many of the green policies the Obama administration set in place. Trump is yet to respond to the allegation, but it is perhaps fair to suggest he doesn't really care.
The group consisted of nine big names in conservation and environmentalism, including Alaska Wilderness League Action, Clean Water Action, Defenders of Wildlife, Earthjustice, EDF Action, Friends of the Earth, League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, and The Wilderness Society. They affirmed in their statement, "Donald Trump’s administration has unleashed an unprecedented assault on our environment and the health of our communities. His policies threaten our climate, air, water, public lands, wildlife, and oceans; no amount of his greenwashing can change the simple fact: Donald Trump has been the worst president for our environment in history."
The eco-warriors also took a moment to remind us of what's at stake if we let Trump run wild and free with environmental and energy policy. "Unfortunately, our children will pay the costs of this president’s recklessness," they wrote. "Our organizations have repeatedly fought back against these attacks and we will continue to fight to ensure that our kids don’t bear the brunt of the Trump administration’s anti-environmental agenda." The nine stakeholders are involved in a variety of environmental projects. From fighting for clean water to protecting wildlife and natural habitats, they are all committed to building a greener future for America and the world.
In line with the collective statement, Martin Hayden, Vice President of Policy and Legislation at Earthjustice, issued a remark. "We see the environmental state of President Trump’s union every day. Assaults on basic safeguards protecting clean air and water. Coal and oil lobbyists installed at the highest levels of government tasked with eviscerating our bedrock environmental laws. Secretive schemes to ensure that the public never gets a chance to hear about or speak out against any of it," he stated. "The only power that’s restrained these corporate cronies in office is the power of the law — rest assured, Earthjustice will continue to use it to the fullest." Earthjustice is a nonprofit public interest environmental law organization. They utilize the power of law to protect public health, preserve nature and wildlife, advance clean energy, and combat climate change. Will Trump lash out at the group? Well, we're just going to have to wait and find out.
