'You only gave me your number so I'd pay for dinner,' he said
Sometimes "first impressions" can be misleading, and Gorgelle (@foreeeeeal) was the recent victim of it. She took to X on October 22, 2026, to expose a man she had just met at a farmer's market. She thought he "seemed nice" and gave him her number. But before they even had a proper "chat," he called her out of the blue. When she explained she did not like "surprise calls," he showed her his true colors. The post received over 30,000 likes, 1,600 comments, and 1,700 reshares.

Gorgelle posted screenshots of her text messages with the man. His opening message said, "Let me guess, you only gave me your number so I'd pay for dinner," followed by a "Joking" text. She replied and said that she gave him her number because he "seemed nice." He declared himself "nice" and said the last girl he bought dinner for ghosted him. He added that he put in a lot of effort, but "nobody notices." After a few messages, he called Gorgelle, but she didn't pick up. He said he called because he liked to hear people's voices before deciding if he "liked them." She replied, "Hey sorry, I don't do surprise phone calls with someone I just met." She thought he understood when he replied by thanking her for her honesty.
A few hours later, he messaged her again. His reason for calling was that he wanted to hear her laugh and to ask her out. "Instead, you made it sound like I did something creepy," he wrote. That was when things went downhill. He called himself a good guy, then proceeded to say, "There were like thirty girls at that market and I picked you." He also pointed out that he complimented her dress, and she only said thanks and didn't even compliment him back. He ended the text by writing, "I'm deleting your number after this, so no need to reply."
i really think MEN thinks me them my number automatically makes you have the GUTS to call me ? like ??? ?? i forgot what his name was cus i didn’t save his contact HE IS A STRANGER FOR ALL I CARE… I DONT PICK STRANGE CALLS and also MEN needs to be educated MORE FR !!!

Gorgelle was stunned by the man's outburst. She finally responded, "Wait, you're mad because I didn't answer a call? Glad I didn't pick up then. Bye." He doubled down and said, "I didn't walk up to you for the conversation. I walked up because I figured you'd be easy. Honestly, your looks were the only thing you had going for you and that doesn't last." Gorgelle ended the conversation with, "That's four calls from you since you said my look don't last."

Gorgelle's decision not to pick up a surprise call before a proper meeting might be strange to some, but in today's age, not everyone is a fan of phone calls. A 2018 Axios poll found that the majority (42%) of American adults prefer communicating in person. But virtually, the majority preferred texting (21%) over phone calls (16%). People between the ages of 18 and 34 preferred texting (28%) over calling (10%), while people 65 years and older favored calls (18%) over texting (13%). Gorgelle falls under the majority.
See, this is where some men mess up. Ain’t nothing wrong with being old-school and wanting to actually talk on the phone instead of texting all day. But once she told you she wasn’t comfortable with surprise calls, you should’ve respected that and kept it moving. You can’t talk about how good of a man you are, then turn around and disrespect a woman because she didn’t respond how you wanted. Being a gentleman ain’t just about paying for dinner. It’s about how you carry yourself when things don’t go your way.

Readers could not believe the man's reaction to Gorgelle declining a call from him. @5hooterFive highlighted, "I love how he called himself a good guy then proceeded to prove he wasn’t and isn’t at all." @francinefaux32 pointed out all the red flags: "Causing conflict over no conflict. Playing the victim when you did nothing wrong. Comparing you to other girls."
