Far-right media outlet Newsmax has been heavily criticized for attacking Joe Biden's dog for being "dirty."  The pro-Trump media outlet sunk to a new low as it took potshots at the dog, and called it unpresidential. Newsmax was accused of spreading falsehoods about the election being stolen and was threatened with a lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems. The media outlet had allegedly claimed that the election software company switched Trump votes to Joe Biden. Newsmax pushed pro-Trump content and positioned itself as an alternative to Fox News.

Newsmax host Greg Kelly's comment on Joe Biden's 12-year-old German Shepherd, Champ, wasn't just a throwaway comment but a full-fledged segment on the network with Kelly even inviting two guests to talk about it. The far-right outlet actually hired two historians to talk about how the President's pet was unpresidential. "I love dogs, but this dog needs a bath and a comb and all kinds of love and care. I've never seen a dog in the White House like this. ... I remember lots of dogs, but not a dog who seems, I don't know, I don't know how much love and care he is getting," said Greg Kelly.

Kelly then went on to introduce the guests. "This dog looks like from the junkyard, and I love that dog, but it looks like he's not been well-cared for," said Kelly. Presidential historian Craig Shirley agreed with Kelly, saying, "He looks very dirty and disheveled, very unlike a presidential dog." Champ is twelve-years-old and past his life expectancy, so it's, in fact, very normal for Champ to look the way he is. Greg Kelly and the two historians would do well to take a good look at themselves in the mirror — metaphorically and literally — before attacking a 12-year-old senior dog.

The Newsmax host was slammed for his comments on the dog. Brian Williams, an MSNBC host, hit out at Kelly. “Think of it this way: If Champ were to meet Greg Kelly, he would probably love Greg Kelly unconditionally,” said Williams, reported The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s what dogs do. Probably also why there are no dogs anchoring Newsmax.”

The President has two dogs, both German Shepherds. While Champ has been with the family since 2008, Major was a recent addition from a shelter in 2018. Biden reinstated a longstanding-tradition after Donald Trump became the first President in more than 100 years to not have a pet at the White house. Bidens also plan to adopt a cat that could join the two German shepherds on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The dogs prominently featured in Biden's campaign ads in the run-up to the Presidential election. Major Biden is a shelter dog and made the headlines earlier this year after Joe Biden fractured his foot while chasing the energetic dog.

Last Christmas, Joe Biden tweeted an incredibly cute video of his two dogs as they frolicked about a Christmas tree to ring in the festive spirit. The older Champ Biden preferred a quieter time by the tree while a younger boisterous Major Biden ran around relentlessly. The video intercut between the pair and had a quieter melodious version of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" set to the background while an energetic Major Biden had a rock version of the song playing in the background. “No matter how you’re celebrating this year, Champ and Major wish you a Merry Christmas,” wrote Biden, reported The Huffington Post.
