Turned out, the object was way simpler than what everyone speculated

No matter how long a couple has known each other, marriage often comes with new discoveries. Living under the same roof means noticing habits, routines, and the occasional mystery that never came up before. For instance, one woman (@ultimatelexiie) got curious when she noticed a mysterious object in her husband’s pocket. She reached out to X to guess what that object could be, in a June 3 post. The guess game engaged more than 25 million viewers, out of whom hundreds responded with their speculations.

The woman said that they had just gotten married when she found the object in his object. When she asked him about it, he just smiled. The object, according to the screenshots she shared, is a small, transparent, cup-like thing packed in a blue box. “What is this thing even for?” She asked the viewers.

The device turned out to be a tongue-stabilizing anti-snoring device (TSD). According to the Cleveland Clinic, TSDs, also called “tongue-retaining devices,” are devices used to manage sleep apnea. The device pulls the tongue forward using suction and holds it in place while the person sleeps. The tip of the device stays outside the mouth.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine surveyed 84 patients with sleep apnea to test the tolerance of TSDs and found that 71% of patients achieved a complete or partial lowering of apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) from 38 to 14 events per hour. Snoring intensity decreased by 68%. 52% of patients continued using the device after a 5-year follow-up. 33% of the TSD users experienced zero side effects.

While the device itself was quite simple, the guesswork and hypothesizing behind it were quite elaborate. In response to the woman’s post, viewers laid out bizarre guesses for the object, from a private part topper to a menstrual cup, from the exoskeleton of a jellyfish, to a dental guard. @narutozacj22266 said, “It's a cup that astronauts use to drink in space. The design pulls water towards the spout on the cup, since gravity doesn't exactly exist up there.” @D_Proto guessed it correctly.
