A Texas woman who got engaged got to experience some of New York city's famous charm when she decided to yell her betrothal news out of her city window. In a video posted to TikTok, Bailey Kenworthy revealed the very characteristic response she received from a random New Yorker when she announced her big news to the whole city. The video, which has been viewed over 3.1 million times since being posted on December 28, 2021, shows Kenworthy excitedly yelling, "I'm engaged, New York!" out an apartment window after her partner, Miguel, popped the big question earlier in the day.

"Shut the fu** up!" a cyclist pedaling in the street below immediately screamed back, at which Kenworthy turned to the camera and said, "I love it here." Talking to New York Post about her video and the hilarious experience, the 24-year-old said: "I love that my video is blowing up. I enjoy when others laugh at my jokes." Kenworthy, who works as a patient service specialist for the University of Texas Medical Branch’s COVID Urgent Care, revealed that she was just visiting Manhattan with her fiancé when they took a trip to the Dumbo pier, where he proposed.

"He played it off by putting our camera on a bench and was like, 'Let's record ourselves posing,'" Kenworthy said. "As we're posing, he then did it." She also clarified that she was wearing a "salt crew" hat during the proposal because 28-year-old Miguel caught her by complete surprise. "My boyfriend proposed to me on the day I was dressed like a literal freshman," she wrote in another TikTok video. "He said he didn't wanna 'give it away.' Like what?!?" While the engagement is still new, the couple has already begun planning their wedding, potentially in November 2023—given the COVID-19 pandemic permits it.

Other TikTok users were quick to point out how Kenworthy's experience is very similar to the popular show 'Friends,' when Monica Geller shouts from her balcony, "I'm engaged! I'm engaged!" Meanwhile, many others explained that this was merely an example of the tough love of New York. "That translates to congrats sis," the official Duolingo account commented while another TikTok user wrote: "That's a New Yorker's way of saying congratulations." VictoriaAda wrote: "New York always finds its way to humble someone quickly," while DB commented: "Yelling things out the window in NYC and getting yelled at in response is my favorite genre on TikTok."

"Giving Monica vibes 'I'M ENGAGED! I'M ENGAGED!'" commented another TikTok user. "'She's outside yelling 'I'm engaged, I'm engaged' didn't you hear her?' 'Oh I thought it was a kid yelling 'I'm gay I' gay' IYNYN," wrote Zira0023, referencing the dialogue between Chandler Bing and Ross Geller in the 'The One with the Proposal' episode from 'Friends.' "That means we happy for you girl. That's how us new yorkers, show love. Congrats ma," commented JoJo. Meanwhile, another TikTok user with the username lilibet wrote: "I'm from NY and it means STF up. That's because we keep it real here." Laidee_J agreed, writing: "Born & raised here too & I'm thinking the same thing LOL That person did NOT give AF & meant EXACTLY what they said. No 'NY Translation' needed LOL."
