The gym is a place to unwind, for some to just work out and for others, a task to be checked off a list. It is no place to meet a careless person who is selfish and obnoxiously loud with no concern for others. At the end of the day, it is a public space where a community gathers, and each person’s space and environment needs to be respected. Unfortunately for a gym goer, u/undercoverunion_145, a newcomer was wreaking havoc by blasting music right next to him. Despite bringing up the issue, the man shunned him, rudely. Ruining his entire morning, the newcomer refused to budge, and so he got a taste of his own medicine in a brilliant way. The Reddit user shared their story on November 25.

The man mentioned that he goes to the gym around 4 am because it’s quieter then. “Five minutes into my 30-minute run, it’s just me and a sea of empty treadmills, until this guy, let’s call him Kevin, comes in and chooses the one right next to me,” he wrote. Though a little irritating, he still ignored the fact and continued to work out. “Then he takes out his phone, sets it on the treadmill, and starts blasting music at full volume,” he recalled. Noise at 4 am in a completely still space. It’s only you and the annoying man with his speaker. Not only is it a situation you don’t want to be in, but it's also hard to tolerate.

Multiple sites, gyms, and experts point out that gym etiquette is of crucial importance. This includes hygiene and respect, among others. According to Fitness CF, one of the listed pointers under gym etiquette is to keep the volume at bay. It clearly highlights that gym goers need to “mind their volume.” Whether it's the sound of the equipment you’re using, your grunting, conversations with another at the place, or your music. It clearly mentions that people should not use their phones or play music without headphones, and even if they do use the latter, the volume should be moderate. It’s basic manners you don’t need a guide for, but this newbie thought he knew better.

“I didn’t want to immediately snap at him, so I said a little loudly, ‘God, I love headphones.’
Kevin glanced at me, said nothing and kept walking,” the man recalled. He decided to make a request. He politely asked if he could use headphones, only to be met with the reply, “Mind your business.” “Alright. My run is ruined, so I decide his walk is about to be ruined too,” the man casually noted. It took a quick plan and excellent execution, but he made it happen. “He’s playing some 80s rock, so I started belting out K-Pop Demon Hunter songs,” the post read.

To add to it, he started singing even though he knew he was tone deaf and out of breath. “But I commit because ruining his run is more important than breathing,” he hysterically remarked. He put up with his top-notch payback for two minutes before the newbie grabbed his stuff and moved to the opposite side. “I have never felt more vindicated on behalf of everyone who believes in basic gym etiquette,” he noted. And so did the internet. u/The_Old_Cat said, “The hero we all need!” u/stillnotelf added, “He wasn't ready for the takedown.”
