Life in the Big Apple can often be lonely. But this Thanksgiving, New York did its magic and strangers came together to celebrate the holiday in an unconventional but heartwarming manner.

The holiday season can sometimes get a bit lonely and overwhelming. Especially if you’re away from your family, hustling hard at life in a big city like New York where you may find yourself often getting lost rather than found. Apart from feeling lonely, one may also find themselves experiencing FOMO (fear of missing out) on the good food, drinks, get-togethers and just the whole vibe and atmosphere of being amongst your loved ones during the holiday season. However, this year, New Yorkers celebrated the holiday in the most NYC way ever and had a gala time in the subway.

TikTok user @d.a.d.e1 shared a video that showcased how a New York City subway train witnessed the true spirit of Thanksgiving where passengers served food to fellow hungry passengers. A lady in a red apron can be seen ensuring everyone has enough to eat and is having a good time. The elaborate buffet shows it’s been prepared with nothing but lots of love and gratitude. Everyone passed around plates and ate on their subway ride together, lifting the spirits of many travelers who must’ve been heading back to an empty home. The video shows a happy subway-riding community enjoying their Thanksgiving meal from the neatly laid-out table of tons of food. The passengers can be seen dancing, laughing, giggling and thanking those who orchestrated the event.

Another video of this heartwarming incident was shared by @itgirljayda_ which showed the immense love that people had for each other in the moment when they were sharing a Thanksgiving meal together. The video was titled “NYC is not a real place LMAO” and rightly so because the entire scene seems straight out of a Hallmark movie. A Thanksgiving table laid out in the middle of the subway compartment with food that’s meant for the passengers to share, exchange smiles and conversations among all the riders: this is not the everyday scene in an NYC subway ride and it wasn’t just any day. It was Thanksgiving and the NYC subway proved the true essence of Thanksgiving is in coming together and sharing a meal and where better to do it than a place that carries in it the most tired and exhausted people of NYC and lifts their spirits.

The video shows everyone in the happiest mood and to think that it was unexpected gives real joy because who doesn’t like a surprise in their regular, monotonous life? The comments section of the video was appreciative of the efforts and had a lot of love to give. @pponcocy.342 said, “Dude this makes me happy to see how they all united to have a Thanksgiving dinner together even if it's on a train. goofy fr!” @.huh...what shared a great insight, “This is so cute! Everyone got so separated with the pandemic, so it’s so fun to see people celebrating Thanksgiving in public with strangers.” This gesture on the part of New Yorkers has proven that no matter how isolated our lives have become due to technology and work, it’s always a good idea to come together for special days, not only to give but also to receive and celebrate the gift of humanity together.
