Discover budget-friendly advice from a New Yorker on elevating the aesthetics of your apartment creatively and affordably.
Taking care of our living spaces can be immensely beneficial. Whether it is keeping it clean or making it more aesthetic, it can have a marked difference in how we perceive our surroundings. TikTok influencer Hattie Kolp - who goes on the platform by @hattiekolp - has been sharing videos on her profile about budget-friendly purchases to make one's apartment more aesthetic. In one of her recent videos, she details how she grew up in an old apartment in New York City and got the chance to renovate it as soon as her parents moved out. During the renovation, she paid particular attention to restoring the apartment's historical details and the result speaks for itself.
The video, captioned "My dream home," has gained an impressive 1.9 million views on the platform. Kolp's page is very useful for those looking to spruce up their place without breaking the bank. Another video of hers, captioned, "Felt like these spaces needed a little summer refresh with bath and bedding from @Anthropologie."
At the beginning of her video, we see her bedroom with very normal-looking white sheets and a text overlay reading, "Let's add some color!" It quickly transitions and we see a much more eye-pleasing view, highlighting how something as simple as changing the sheets can make a big difference. She proceeds to do the same thing with the shower curtain and towel in her bathroom.
Kolp also has another viral video where she fixed up the view from her kitchen. She starts the video by saying she was grateful to have a view, but it was not "the vibe." Later in the video, she purchases faux stained glass from Amazon and decides to adorn her window to make the view more pleasing. She says, "It's completely removable, peels right off and was literally the easiest thing to work with."
Kolp stated that the entire installation process only took her five minutes and was worth the effort. She concludes by adding that the stained glass did not block any light and made her kitchen a "happier place." People on the platform shared their thoughts on the fix-up in the comments section. @jeanxvans commented, "I literally thought you were going to get a mural for the wall." Another user, @honey19606, pointed out, "Love it! It looks like it's always been there."
Her innovations also extend to making the ceiling pretty. In another video, she shares a simple add-on to make the ceiling seem textured. Kolp showcases the textured tile pieces she is about to install and then gets up on a ladder to make measurements of her ceiling. Because of a light fixture in the same area, she found it a bit difficult to fit it properly but managed to do it. She describes the entire task to be "doable for one person." People loved the simple addition and showcased their love for her innovation in the comments section. @cmg77021 commented, "I love maximalism with a touch of the old world. Truly great taste." Another user, @whimsie60, said, "The molding over the cabinetry would look good extended around the whole area."
