The woman shared on social media why imperfect snapshots taken by spouses can become cherished memories too.
Opening social media often feels like stepping into a gallery of perfectly curated lives. Despite our efforts to embrace the beauty of our own realities, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing our messy, unfiltered moments with the polished posts of influencers. But Jacki Day, a mom of a toddler and Instagram user @ohjackiday, shared a touching reminder that the unpolished, everyday moments hold just as much value as the carefully staged ones.
"Just take the video, please," Jackie urged spouses in her video's caption. "I see so many posts begging our husbands to take cute videos of us. I trust that I want those too but sometimes these moments are the best ones. I’ve been watching this video while my baby sleeps since my husband captured it." In the video, Jacki's husband Trace sneaks into their bathroom which is visibly messy and films a brief clip without Jacki's knowledge. Jacki can be seen watching her little boy in the bathtub, flopping his limbs playfully and looking all cute. The mother sheds tears of joy as she watches her toddler enjoy bath time. The video’s overlay text notes that her husband knew how she would want to remember this precious moment forever.
Jacki and her husband welcomed their first child, Trace Flynn Day, back in November 2023. She shared a separate post revealing her post-partum struggles with the community along with a few pictures of her baby boy. Jacki wrote about how he was named after his dad and had to spend nine days in the NICU before heading home with his parents. "Baby Trace decided to make his debut a bit earlier than we expected. We’ve been in the NICU battling blood sugar but he’s doing wonderfully and maintaining everything on his own as of the last few days," Jacki added. Back to their other video, Jacki's followers were overwhelmed to witness a beautiful moment between a baby and his parents.

@shimmyshimmy1 commented, "My daughter watches the videos I made of her as a baby. She looked at me and said, 'Mommy you loved me so much.' I corrected her and said, 'I love you always.' She gave me the biggest hug. She loves watching herself as a baby and our interactions." @wonkatiers mentioned, "I love these and I love this new stage of life for you. If you could see the sloppy beautiful mess I am daily compared to when I first started Insta and even during pregnancy in labels, you wouldn’t believe it. But I’ve never been happier in my life. I truly love this for you. And you’re always perfect, sweet friend."
@mitz_cur complimented, "This looks like a normal lived-in bathroom to me! So much online is faked. The experiences you have with your little one outweigh any aesthetic." @crybaby.labia wrote, "I want you to know I didn’t see a mess at all. You guys live your lives and this is a home, not a museum. This reminds me of all the childhood videos I see on my mom's tape recorder." @yanny_babes joked, "I don't have these moments recorded. Everyone's too busy to do that for me. P.S.: Don't hate on my man. He works abroad and only comes home every eight months but I have my family here." @trex_cools added, "You making me have baby fever and I’m too scared to get pregnant and I can’t find a loyal man."
