The man simply couldn't believe that one could be charged such a hefty fee for parking while receiving medical care.
Getting medical care or staying at a hospital for several days is a significantly large expense, especially in a country like America. Paying a large hospital bill becomes even harder when a large parking bill comes attached to it A new dad found himself in a similar situation when he was ready to take his newborn daughter home. He had to pay an extravagant parking fee at the hospital for six days. The man—who goes by @mrgamgams on TikTok—took to the platform to share his experience with parking at a hospital and paying an extravagant fee.
"Are you kidding me?" the text overlay of the video read as the man went close to the ticket machine to scan his ticket and get a bill for parking at the hospital. "Anyone scared how much the parking is going to be for six days at the hospital?" the new dad questioned as he went in with his ticket. The man scanned his ticket and his bill popped up on the screen. The charge for each day came down to approximately twenty dollars and a tax of around ten dollars. "Are you kidding me? A 138 dollars? Oh my gosh," the man sighed as he saw it.
The machine also mentioned an hourly parking rate for parking at the place below twenty-four hours. The prices ranged from five dollars for fifteen minutes to an hour to nineteen dollars for ten hours to twenty-four hours of parking at the hospital. The list also revealed how much a person would have to pay if they lost their parking ticket. That amounted to thirty dollars and came down to be much cheaper than the man's actual bill, which could be pretty surprising too, as the man would have saved more than a hundred dollars if he had misplaced the ticket instead of keeping it safe and paying for what he owed. In the caption, the dad emphasized, "Don't ever park at the hospital!"
The video received more than 380k views and people took to the comments section to express their thoughts on the incident and made quite a few suggestions on how to avoid paying such a hefty fee. @thetowick wrote, "I was in the hospital for 5 days it was like 110$ parking, but a lost ticket was $28, so I just told them I lost my ticket." @reasonably_confident commented, "I forgot my wallet once and accidentally figured out that if you tell the hospital you can’t pay, they pull out a free parking voucher - no questions asked."
@coyotesong remarked, "Hospitals should only have validated parking. Pay if you park there and don’t go in the spots that stay open for patients, but if you go in, it should be free." Another user shared, "Hahaha. Parked in a building underground parking in Portland, Oregon, for, like, 2 hours for a job I had to do and was charged like 65 bucks. Thank god the company reimbursed me for it." @mandeepsign27886 expressed, "My hospital charges employees for parking. Of course, they are going to charge patients and their loved ones."
