A number of social norms today hide and perpetuate harmful practices in the name of tradition. These have survived through decades and centuries of civilization without much opposition as many tend to quietly accept them out of fear of being ostracized or deemed disruptive by their community. However, if given the chance, most individuals could name at least a few social customs they'd like to see put to rest forever. Twitter user @ewgraiam sparked this conversation on social media recently when he asked netizens in a now-viral tweet what social norms they think we need to retire.

The tweet garnered over 6k responses in a few days. They ranged from problematic parenting practices to customs rooted in racism and a lack of awareness for mental health.
