She was stunned to discover a note in her late father's house after his death until she realized what it entails.
The loss of a loved one is a difficult time in anyone's life. Activities like clearing out their belongings and looking at old photos often trigger difficult emotions. However, it is part of the process of letting go. A woman clearing out her late dad's house stumbled upon a note that shook her. In the video posted on TikTok by the daughter, who goes by @isyabootay, says, "Do not read unless you want the answer."
The text overlay reads, "My father passed away unexpectedly, and as we were cleaning out his house, I found this ominous note shoved in the very back of his dresser. My dad was a simple, straightforward man. Hardworking and honest, so this is completely out of character for him."
With her hands shaking, the 27-year-old opened to see what the answer was, and what she found left her gobsmacked. The suspicious note merely contained instructions on how to win the peg game, which has been common at Cracker Barrel restaurants since the 1960s. Cracker Barrel is actually a US chain with a southern country theme and the peg game is something that is seen on their dining tables. In the game, one needs to remove pegs from the triangle-shaped board so that only one remains.
Many took to the comment section talking about how information like that needed to be preserved because the game was extremely tricky to solve. "I’ve worked at Crackerbarrel for 6 years and couldn’t tell you how to beat the damn game," writes @Brokeasf469. "This is important information he has left behind," added @Michaelaa. "May I take a screenshot? This is life-changing," writes @RachelLeigh. Other comments shared their own anecdotes, "We got one from our mom that said 'If you're reading this I must be gone.' We opened it and it said 'Pop goes the weasel,'" writes @greglawrence135.
In another incident of finding old notes in a house, a carpenter who was tearing down a wall to renovate a house found a note from the girl written on September 25, 1975. "To whoever finds this: Today is Sept. 29, 1975. My name is Stephanie Herron. I live here with my mother, father (Earnest), Becky, and Valerie." It further said, "Gerald Ford is president. Mrs. Lay is our neighbor. Mum is pregnant and the baby is due any day now," the note read. "We are remodeling the house. The Illinois Central Railroad is on the west side of the house. We have lived here for 8 years," the girl revealed. The girl also shared that her dad works for the Chicago North Western Railroad. "Green Valley has about 650 people. I am 14, Val is 16 and Becky is 12. I hope you have lots of happiness in this house," the girl wished the family who lived in the house next," the girl added. The new homeowner and the carpenter later found the girl, who was now in her 60s. The woman had changed her surname to Poit and lives in New York, per Mirror.
