One of the hardest things for us to control in life is our own emotions. Only during the testing moments do we realize that what others do or say matters a lot to us, which sometimes leads to a blow-up of emotions. So, for those wondering if there is an effective way to keep our emotions under check, renowned podcast host, motivational speaker and author Mel Robbins—who goes by @melrobbins on TikTok—has a simple solution: the "Let Them Theory." In a viral video, Robbins explained how these two golden words have the power to make our lives better and much more peaceful.

"Stop wasting energy trying to get other people to meet your expectations. Instead, try using the 'Let Them Theory,'" Robbins mentioned in the captions. Yes. It is as straightforward as that. The author emphasized that no matter how unfavorable someone's behavior or decisions seem, we simply need to "let them" do it. "The next time you feel left out, your friends go out to brunch together and they don't invite you. Let them," the author said. She added, "Your spouse does not wanna do the 5K with you. Let them." Even if you lose your job because your company is laying off people, you simply let it happen, Robbins suggests.

Robbins highlighted that rather than letting things that happen around us control our emotions, we need to let people be themselves. "You spend so much time and energy trying to control other people and getting emotionally worked up about things that are beyond your control," she pointed out. But the moment we "let them" be themselves, as per Robbins, we "tap into peace and true control."

But it is not only about gaining peace of mind and control of emotions. Letting people be themselves will eventually reveal their true colors, as per Robbins. "If you let them, people will then reveal who they truly are. And when they reveal who they truly are to you, you now know what you can choose next that's right for you," the motivational speaker emphasized and said, "So, let them." The video garnered over 17 million views on TikTok and nearly 8500 comments poured in. While some people found the "let them theory" relevant and effective others warned that practicing this might make a person lonely.

"Let them, we can't control them. Choose to salvage yourself first and you'll realize you're not attaching to them and it's easier to let go and move on," commented @bisayangnanay01. "The best advice I saw. Thank you. I wasted my time and emotion sulking on why. I will let them be and take care of myself more," wrote @redgc03.

"I can see the benefit that letting them recognize that you can't control a situation, but you should still acknowledge how you feel and determine what you need going forward. I've felt extremely left behind before, but that's because I'm insecure in my own life. I let people do whatever but also ask for reassurance and be sensitive when sharing. 'Letting them' comes first, but being proactive about your needs is the next important step," commented @chibihelix. "I've lived a 'let them' lifestyle. My friends still don't invite me out when they meet up," pointed out @bobaloisi.
