Kayla Stewart (@ilivetodowhatilove) and her wife adopted a boy because they wanted to create a family built on love, not biological ties. And guess what? Their son just confirmed that they had been doing it right with a single confession. Stewart, who accidentally captured the video, shared it on Instagram on October 24, 2025. So far, the video has over 21 million views.

Stewart and her wife were busy cleaning the house while their baby began helping them with the chores. Everybody was busy, and neither Stewart nor her wife expected a heartfelt confession from their son. "I love doing this," the boy said before whispering something even more beautiful. "This is the best... life," he exclaimed, and the queer couple just looked at each other in utter disbelief. The parents didn't react because they wanted their son to feel safe and continue sharing. "'Stay calm, stay cool,' we screamed through glowing eyes at each other. Being together for 16 years opens up a whole other world to what a relationship means. But adopting and watching your son grow into his authentic self and find that safety and comfort to freely express his emotions is just out of this world," Stewart confessed. She said she didn't know if she should celebrate her son's confession or cry, and all she could do was stare at her wife with a smile of contentment. "He tells us all the time how he feels about us and us adopting him. He is very connected to spirit, and his soul expression has said many times that he waited for us since birth, and it took us forever," Stewart wrote in the caption.

Adoption is one of the most rewarding things in life, but it certainly isn't easy. From the minute a child enters your life, you become responsible for their entire being. And this change doesn't come overnight. Adoptive parents must realize that they constantly have to evolve to foster a bond and create the family they want. Now, it's also important to acknowledge that if they don't cater to what the kids want, they might end up ruining things. Situations get out of control when the experts the parents seek help from also fail to understand the core issue. In fact, Lisa Maynard, a licensed clinical social worker and implementation specialist for the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.), told the American Psychological Association, "Behavioral issues are typically what bring adoptive or foster families into mental health services. But when providers don’t have a good understanding of the core issues that kids come in with — abuse, neglect, loss and grief, ambiguous loss, complex trauma, and identity issues — they can do more harm than good."

Stewart's video received an overwhelming response, with people constantly praising her and her partner for providing such a beautiful space to their adopted son. For example, @mangogreenttea commented, "So cute. Next time, make this a big deal! Not loudly, obviously, but reinforce it. Say, 'Yeah! This is a great life!'" @was.801 confessed, "Here I am, crying for strangers. But this one hits different. It’s big. Really big. This is the best compliment a parent could ever get to hear. Just, wow. Way to go, Mamas." @natalielegerrette wrote, "He literally said 10 words, and I'm crying!" @glamizon shared, "I would not have been able to contain myself! Thank you both for loving someone you didn't have to!"

@alice_oceanlover commented, "To provide a child with a safe, secure, and loving environment is probably the best thing anyone can do in life. Well done, parents." @jamie_whooo pointed out, "The pride on your face is well deserved. You two did that! You created a space where a little human is literally living his best life... in the world. Kudos, mamas." @heafau_ wrote, "The realization when I heard him saying, 'This is the best life,' as I read 'adopted son,' and I knew that poor baby knows exactly what he’s talking about."
