It’s easy for employers and management to take advantage of their higher positions and have their own way. In the bargain, employees suffer, and if they don’t take a stand, the cycle continues. A user who goes by u/matttopoac revealed how their single mom refused to put up with her toxic manager. They shared a post on December 14, revealing how the employer, despite a good performance review, had called out his mom, who was working in HR. He listed several “errors” she had made and put her down. Thankfully, she instantly knew what she had to do, and her confident response was applauded by many.
Life never came easy for this woman. She was a single parent, working a full-time job, and doing her best. Despite it all, she ensured she excelled with a Master’s degree and other certifications. She had been working as the head of the HR department at her workplace, and to her child, she was “one of the most impressive people.” Four months before the incident, she had undergone her performance review, and everything was “excellent.” There was no issue highlighted, nor any other problems. To her surprise, when she was called into the office months later, the manager handed her a long list.

He “pushed a four-page document across the table towards her. It was a long list of about 25 points, all alleged mistakes and failures on her part as the head of the HR department.” After silently evaluating the situation in her mind, the woman didn’t bargain or defend herself. She knew her review was great, and this endless list was ridiculous. She looked at her confused manager to see what more he had to say. He told her, “Now, I'm not asking you to resign over this." However, the employee knew better than to take the disrespect, especially after her meticulous performance and position.

“She didn't have to deal with this nonsense. She was financially stable, and she could retire tomorrow and be perfectly happy,” the post read. So there was no second thought about what she would choose. “My mom looked him in the eye and said, ‘You should be. But don't worry, it will be on your desk in 5 minutes,” the user noted. She wrote a one-line resignation, handed it over, packed her stuff, and walked out. Funnily enough, a few other HR employees were out of town at the time, and the workload undoubtedly went haywire, thanks to the boss's careless attitude.
A lot of employees are struggling to exercise loyalty because superiors think they can treat them however they please. Data from the Workplace Bullying Institute revealed that 32% of American workers, i.e., 52.2 million workers, were directly bullied at their workplace. However, 46% of employees agreed to being affected by workplace bullying in some way or another. The stats are higher for women being bullied and picked on. It seriously affects employee loyalty, performance, and several other factors. Sadly, one of the ways employees get out of it is by losing their jobs. Victims have a 62% of losing their jobs either through “constructive discharge (18%), termination, transfer, or voluntarily quitting (25.6%).”


In this case, the mom took a stand for herself and quit. “We never found out the full story of the chaos that ensued, but I'm glad to know that guy got his instant karma,” the post read. u/marlborough84 wrote, “I don't get it. What was the guy’s goal if not to get a resignation?” u/thundervisas_6v added, “I would’ve asked that doorknob to elaborate on many of those 20 points, and then ask why they weren’t brought up in the performance review. And watch him squirm.” u/InformationAfter3476 remarked, “Good on your Mum for walking out! I'm a fan!”
