A leap year is considered lucky, blessed, special and so much more given the impatient wait it holds. 2024 being a leap year has had celebrations galore ensuring people make the most of it. A North Carolina mom who was born on a leap day and 40 years later, got the spectacular opportunity to bring her baby into the world on the same day, per Good Morning America. Dr. Kai Sun, from Duke Health, received the privileged choice of welcoming her baby on the same date as her and made a cherishing memory for a lifetime. She and her husband Michael Paik welcomed baby Chloe three days post her due date which was February 26th.

Sun said, “My husband and I were just saying how cool it would be if she were born on the same day as my birthday. And somehow, it happened.” While both baby and momma are doing well, she recalled how Chloe’s birthday holds sentimental value. Adding more about her pregnancy, Sun mentioned how she was nervous about the same given the few complications. She said, "There were some little things along the way. There were some abnormal findings on the initial ultrasound that we were nervous about. And then I had COVID. And I fell on my belly in [my] third trimester."

There are just some small things that happened that made us a little nervous but everything turned out well in the end,” she pointed out. Duke Health shared a clip of the mom and baby whereas Sun shared more. “I’m 10 in leap years today. I was born in 1984,” Sun said excitedly while holding her baby. “Her due date was on the 26th, we were originally going to induce her on the 24th, but we had this silly idea, ‘What if she’s born on the same day as me?’” Sun added. The mom shared that she felt super special and that it was the “best birthday she’d ever had.”

“She is the most precious birthday gift I could ever imagine,” Sun remarked. “Chloe arrived a few days past her due date, and Kai was induced into labor. The new mom said the arrival of her newest little one is a delightful birthday surprise, and she looks forward to sharing more birthdays with Chloe and dad Michael Paik in the future,” the caption of the post read. Undoubtedly, the mom and baby will be having special and extravagant birthdays every leap year but there’s an added heartwarming reason behind Chloe’s birthday. Sun also has a rainbow baby whom she lost to miscarriage almost exactly a year ago.

"We had a miscarriage almost exactly a year ago and so that makes her more special," Sun said. The parents cherish their new baby Chloe, along with their other kids and their rainbow baby and all of the reasons have added to delightfully ensure that Chloe’s birth is more than just a leap birthday. "I look forward to taking her home with me and having her meet the rest of the family, my parents and her siblings," Sun said. "And we'll have cake, of course,” the mom mentioned. "I just hope that she knows that she's special, not just because she has a special birthday."
