She assumed her kids would welcome her with open arms after years of neglect — until she faced the reality
Parental abandonment often leaves deep, irreversible scars on children. A 20-year-old (u/noticeImpressive8683) went through similar turmoil when her mom abandoned her and her three siblings for a new boyfriend. Devastated, the kids had just started building their lives from scratch when the entitled mom returned, demanding they let her move back into their house. On April 20, 2026, the narrator shared how she got even with her cruel mom — and her post has since received over 2,000 upvotes.
My mom thinks she deserves to move in after her bf broke up with her.

It all began back in November 2020 when the author's mom and her stepdad divorced after he caught her texting another man. The author’s stepfather, whom she considered her true father, was forced to leave that night after facing deep betrayal. Shortly after, the mother walked out on her four children to move in with the new man three to four hours away, dismissing her responsibilities. She told her kids, "There’s more than enough of you to rely on each other," and promised, "You’ll get it when you’re older and have children of your own." For five years, the mother treated her biological kids like a burden while playing "mommy" to her boyfriend’s younger children, occasionally popping back only to fetch clothes or hide out after fights.

Tensions exploded after a temporary breakup when the mother returned, saying, "kids need their moms." The author immediately confronted her: "When did you care about this five years ago when you left us claiming we’d understand when we were older? We’re older now, and we still don’t understand how a woman can do that to her kids." After hurling vicious insults at her children, the mother went to stay with her own parents, playing the victim so heavily that the grandparents actually told the kids to block her number. But within days, she ran right back to her boyfriend. Fed up with the instability, the author's older sibling took legal action, threatening to expose the mother's neglect in court. The ultimatum worked: the mother officially signed over the house, gave up custody of the youngest kid, declared herself an unfit parent, and walked away.
The ultimate breaking point came when Mom's boyfriend finally ended things for good and threw out all her belongings. She then got a new phone number and contacted her kids, demanding her old room back. She even claimed she would never leave her kids again. When told her former bedroom now belonged to the youngest child, she flew into a rage, calling them "ungrateful brats," accusing their dad of turning them against her, and insisting she was "still the mom and has the final say."
"We’ll talk in person about this; see you soon. Love you," she said. Refusing to let her barge back into their lives, the siblings changed all the locks. They even set up morning and afternoon shifts to guard the house, called their aunt and uncle for backup, and prepared to call the police the moment she set foot on the porch.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 23% of American mothers live in single-parent households or without a partner present. In such cases, when primary parents walk out, older siblings often take adult responsibilities. Similarly, a report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office reveals that as of 2023, 2.4 million children in the U.S. were raised in arrangements without their biological parents. The narrator and her siblings, too, were severe victims of parental abandonment, which left them with a bitter childhood like most kids in their position.

Meanwhile, netizens fully supported the narrator and urged her to enforce strict legal boundaries against their mother. u/Hey_HaveAGreatDay pointed out the irony of the situation, commenting, "Mom tells kids they can fend for themselves. Is upset to learn they actually can. Some people man." u/SlightlyAwkwardMe highlighted her true motivations, writing, "She’s not coming back as a mom. She’s coming back cuz she’s got nowhere else, lol."
