On a calm evening, her son, Minion, and his friend approached her looking terrified. Upon asking, the boys revealed a creepy stranger was texting them, describing their exact location. "Mom, someone is texting me crazy stuff, and they described where the house is," Minion explained. Naturally, the author immediately jumped into action. She asked for the sender's contact number and prepared to confront the prankster. "I'm not a coder or a hacker; I can barely run my laptop, but I am good at putting pieces together," the woman confessed.
The author used a reverse phone lookup website to find an associated home address. She immediately verified the location using Google Street View. Next, she took screenshots of Snapchat accounts suggested for that number. The mother then added the unknown number to her contacts and compared the Snapchat suggestions. One username stood out:q_dawg$&@ and the boys said it could be Quinn, a teenager living nearby.

"There was a risk that we were wrong, but the chances were we were right. We live in a small town, with only one high school; it makes sense that it's a teen they know," she noted. The mom confirmed the name with the kids and set up a burner number on an app to reply. "Hey Quinn, if you're going to prank text, do better. I know where you live," she wrote.
The prankster cracked under the pressure in seconds. "I'm sorry, sir," he wrote. The author didn't correct him. She just warned Quinn not to repeat this with her kid or anyone else. Later, the author informed Minion and her friend about solving the mystery. As she walked away, she heard her son's friend whisper, "Your mom is scary." That being said, the story highlights a much larger issue. According to a Pew Research survey, 46% of teens have experienced online bullying and harassment. In fact, 15% were even asked to share their location and other information. Thankfully, Minion and his friend had the author to protect them.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Reddit post, u/Parvanu commented, "My mother is 4’11”; she held a guy over the top balcony in a 3-storey townhouse and threatened to drop him if he didn’t leave. She was pregnant with us (twins), and he had hit her friend, my dad, and someone else." Similarly, u/FedUpWithTexting said, "We all need a mum like you. Well done."
