The woman explained why parents shouldn't put their kids' names on certain school supplies.
School supplies are one of the most important aspects of the back-to-school season. Most parents try to gather everything their child might need for the new school year, often labeling the supplies with their child’s name. However, one mom, Amy Jackson (@amyjackson9213 on TikTok), believes parents shouldn’t label supplies so they can be shared by all students. She shared a video on TikTok explaining her reasoning.
"Not putting my kids' names on the school supplies I bought because if someone should need them they should have access to them. Y'all weird as f*** for being so worried about school supplies getting used for another student..." Jackson wrote in the text overlay of the video as she arranged the extra school supplies she had bought for kids who might need them. "I will die on this hill. So many moms post themselves saying they want every supply they bought being used for only their kid. I buy extra… we ain't the same sis," the mom wrote in the video's caption. People had mixed reactions to the idea and took to the comments to express them.

@mamajkelly commented, "Genuinely wondering would u still stand on that if you weren't making all this money from TikTok?" Jackson made a video in response to the comment and explained what she had meant. "Yes, I have always been this way," she replied. However, she explained that she wasn't talking about fancy things that the kids specifically pick out for themselves or folders and lunch boxes that have characters on them. If they have picked something special it should have a kids' name because it is special to them and they have specifically picked it out. The woman was talking about things like crayon boxes that cost 50 cents and about specific videos she had seen of parents putting their kids' names on such things.
@amyjackson9213 Replying to @mamaJ let me clarify! Cuz im talking about like crayons, a folder, the little cheap things that at the end of the day dont matter cuz theyre sll the same. #momssupportingmoms #momsoftiktok #schoolsupplies #backtoschool #fyp ♬ original sound - Amyjackson9213🍉
@brit_r_vargas commented under the original video, "It’s not weird. I’m struggling to get supplies/clothes/shoes. If I was able to do more I would. But as of right now, I can’t so my kid comes first." The mom made yet another video in response to that comment. Jackson clarified that she was not talking about parents who were struggling to get supplies or couldn't get extra. "It's about the few videos of people that I have seen doing school supply hauls and they write their names on Chlorox wipes, on tissues saying that I have spent my money on it so I am going to make sure that everything gets used for my kid." She was not talking about others who might be writing names on school supplies for other reasons.
@chapina_93 wrote, "You're a blessing! We need more humans like you this year I'm struggling to get what I need for my son and he is reusing most of last year's things and buying as I go this year for him." @adrianapacheco535 commented, "I always buy like 5-6 packs of everything even if it’s not needed for my child, cause I’m fortunate enough to be able to, so if other kids less fortunate can use then use it. My mom couldn’t I can." @dazzled._.by._.em remarked, "I grew up putting my pencils that were 99c in the bucket to share and everyone bringing a tissue box so ALL of us could have tissues, sharing is caring and life's getting too pricey."
@amyjackson9213 Replying to @brittanyrae clarifying that this isn’t about most people. Its about the specific moms i saw making videos and putting names on like clorox wipes, tissues, just being petty imo #school #schoolsupplies #momssupportingmoms #momsoftiktok #fyp ♬ original sound - Amyjackson9213🍉
