A woman lists reasons why owning a car that is paid off instantly is the coolest thing that can happen to a person.
In the modern world, we have developed a habit of changing things we own too quickly. From the phones and laptops we own to the cars we drive, people always seem to be on the lookout to keep upgrading and often forget that what they already have is pretty great. Moreover, a lot of people who own fancy cars are forced to make monthly payments, which can be a terrible long-term commitment that affects their finances. Erin Monroe (@erin.monroe_) talked about an insightful conversation she had with her daughter about why their car was the best because it was paid off.
The video has over 6.7 million views and 26.3K comments on the website. She begins the video by sharing, "My daughter asked me, 'How come we don't have a cool car?' and I said I beg to differ." Monroe told her daughter that their car was the coolest one on the road because there were no payments to be made for it. Her daughter was very curious and inquired if that meant Monroe had enough money to buy a new car.
The mother clarified that she could not afford one at the moment. She explained, "This car might be 11 years old and have 190,000 miles on it, but we are gonna drive her until the wheels fall off and the engine explodes on the side of the highway." Monroe also added that the family would keep the car till the cost of repairs reached the price of getting a brand-new car. The woman stated how they would also not fix non-essential items and would do the bare minimum to keep the car functional and safe.
She says, "The backup camera doesn't work. That's fine; I learned how to parallel park without one. The radio works when it wants to, also fine. I'm content sitting in the silence, listening to the racing of my own thoughts." Monroe hilariously shared how the car's temperature gauge had malfunctioned and was now indicating that it was 100 degrees outside. She points the camera outside, highlighting how it was snowing and that she lives in New York.
Monroe insisted that the family would continue to use their car as much as they could before it completely gave out. She concludes the hilarious and insightful clip by saying, "Because there is nothing cooler than a car that is paid off and don't let anybody tell you otherwise." People in the comments wholeheartedly agreed with the woman's approach. @texasmom_tonya commented, "My son is 13 years old. My car is eight years old. He doesn't realize I am driving around in his future 1st car. It's paid for."
Another individual, @a.keynton, shared, "I bought myself a new car two years and I plan to make it last until my kid can drive it." @kw9488 said, "Exactly! Mine gets paid off in less than a year. Have maintenance done regularly so that puppy will go forever." @heighes.haus expressed, "My jeep is paid off and I refuse to get a new car until this explodes with me in it."
