The dog's information is usually more accurate than the machine's reading, she said.

Managing a kid's chronic illness can be a challenging thing for parents, as kids might not be able to explain their symptoms as well as adults do. In such a situation, people rely on multiple things to help manage the illness. But one mom has got someone who helps manage her 4-year-old son's diabetes even better than all the machines. Her son's diabetic alert service dog, Ducky, alerts her about the changes in his blood sugar around 30-45 minutes before it happen. The mom, Aubrie Lewis–who goes by @onederfulwells on TikTok–shared how the dog has made her life a little easier.

"This is my 4-year-old son's diabetic alert service dog and I want to show you how he gives me an alert before technology even notifies me that something is wrong," Lewis shared. "You can see his nose nudging me here and you can see my Apple watch showing that Wells is 102, trending down." She pointed out she did not panic at that reading because her son, Wells, usually levels around 80 to 90. "But because Ducky is alerting, that means something is up. I have really started to trust his nose." She shared that the 2-year-old English cocker spaniel had joined the family in March 2025 and he was really getting the hang of things.

Lewis was checking Wells as Ducky continued watching them. "He loves to watch because if he is right, he gets a big reward." She explained, "Ducky's alerting threshold is 85 to 180. So anything below 85 or over 180 means a big puppy party or a reward." She checked the glucometer and it showed a reading of 80. "He is 80. Which means a puppy party for Ducky." The dog was really excited that he was right and would get a treat soon. So he kept jumping around and following the mom. "We have to give this boy his glucose first before we can go have our puppy party because we have to keep him safe," Lewis shared as she gave two glucose tablets to her son.

She pointed out that normally, she wouldn't have gotten an alert for another 10-15 minutes. Hence, Ducky saved her son from being in the 60s. The caption read, "A puppy party was in fact had." The video received more than 706k views and over 144k likes. People in the comments appreciated what the dog did and shared their own experiences. @thedarlingangel wrote, "I have been in the hospital ER and had someone's diabetic alert dog alert me that I was low. I am not diabetic. The lady told me what was up, and I bought a juice."

@siena319_ commented, "I truly need to get a diabetic service dog. I currently just moved out and live on my own, and I’m always scared of bottoming out at night." @motocross07141 remarked, "I’m a diabetic and have been wanting to get one, but I don’t know how. Please let me know the process and how you got a dog!" @lonevulf7 shared, "Dogs never cease to amaze. It's absolutely crazy they can smell that well and equally crazy that we figured it out and trained them to alert it."
