The initial years of schooling are tough on both parents and children. While helping them with homework and figuring out what to prepare for their snack box is hectic, another major task is waking them and getting them ready for school. Ms. Rachel–who goes by @msrachelforlittles–a popular mom on TikTok, usually shares creative and interesting parenting advice, but recently, she sparked a debate with a confession. In her video, she mentioned that she came up with a trick to ensure her son was ready and on time for school, but not everyone was on board.

Rachel is often looked up to and is said to be one of the favorite moms for fellow mothers and their children to learn from and listen to. As a toddler mom herself, she confessed, “I dress my little boy for school at night.” While it may seem confusing, the woman explained that she puts on a new shirt along with comfortable sweatpants for her son before he goes to bed. She ensured that the clothing was comfortable for her son to sleep in. “And when he wakes up, we just throw on sneakers,” Rachel added. She also mentioned that she would teach her son to wake up and get dressed before school as one should and that it would be a good thing to learn. “But I can’t do that right now,” she remarked.

She also shared that it’s okay to have different methods as she did and that, as a mother, she was trying her best as any parent would. She calls the idea her tip or trick for toddler moms and said, “We love this for us right now,” in her caption. Her video received over 9M views, with 627K likes and 18K comments. There was a debate between parents on whether such an approach is recommendable or not. However, many parents were relieved that Rachel highlighted the need to normalize being imperfect parents. @shaniaherzner said, “I think I needed Ms. Rachel to say that it’s okay to not be a perfect parent.” @marieloves1017 said, “We love you. Thank you for letting us know that some people’s ‘normal’ is not everyone else’s ‘normal'.”

Some parents did not quite agree with the idea of dressing one’s kid up for school at night. One of the major reasons was having to bathe them in the morning before school. Rachel clarified the same and suggested bathing the child at night before bed. @munch_alicious disagreed and said, “We Carribeans have a bath in the mornings and at night.” @babycrochetbygerogia said, “I can’t even imagine this. In the UK, we’re so ingrained in nightwear and then day wear.”

Other moms were on board with the idea because they agreed that it would be beneficial for both the child and parents. @coryqueue said, “As a daycare provider, I knew tons of families that did this. If it works, it works!” @anonasshole said, “My son is 2.5 and my daughter is 11. There are days we don’t get out of our PJs. Comfort is the key!”
