The mom shared how a grown man standing ahead of them complimented her six-year-old daughter's appearance, expecting her to thank him.
Compliments are meant to make people feel good. Depending upon the situation and person they are coming from, some of them might feel uncalled for. A mom found herself in a similar situation when a grown man complimented her 6-year-old daughter's appearance. The woman, Liz Kindred—who goes @yourejustliz on TikTok—took to the platform to share the incident with people. Many parents took to the comments section to voice their support for her and her reaction to the situation.
"I was in line this morning with my six-year-old," the mom began. "And a grown man turned around and said to my six-year-old, 'My goodness you sure are pretty." She added, "My six-year-old is gorgeous, yes, but she is also very in tune and perceptive and she's an introvert so she grabbed my leg tight." The woman joked, "I am pretty chill, I am in a 12-step program, so I am less knee-jerk reactionary these days." She continued, "I am pretty chill. Then he repeated himself, 'You sure are pretty, look at those blue eyes.'" Her daughter grabbed her a little tighter in response. Liz just responded with an awkward "Huh" as the man refused to budge.
"He's a boomer, he's a mover, god love him, he said, 'I guess your mom didn't teach you any manners.'" The mom just let out an uncomfortable "Hmm." There was a really long pause before anyone said anything else. "Under his breath, he said, 'Guess not.'" The mom knew they were going to be there for a while so she responded to the man eventually. "Well, I said very quietly, in a nice, firm, Jesus-loving way, posing it as a question, because I know guys love that and said, 'If you assume that I didn't teach my six-year-old daughter to say thank you to a grown man, to a grown consenting man when he compliments her appearance, then you would be correct."
Liz shared that there was silence for five more minutes after that and it seemed like the longest silence of her life. The video received over 6.4 million views and more than 643.5k likes. People took to the comments section to applaud the woman's response and share similar incidents that happened to them. @sarahdelogillam commented, "My mom would always say 'Sorry, I taught my kids not to talk to strangers and you are a stranger.'" @emileejohnson37 wrote, "An old man called my 4-year-old daughter a sweetheart at the store.. she boldly responded, 'I am not your sweetheart!' I was so proud."
@aby.darling remarked, "You're more polite than I am. I've just started pointing creepiness out. 'Do you spend a lot of time talking to children you don't know?'" @chantelcoyle shared, "If you have good intentions with your compliment you don't need to be validated with thank you. It's not rude. People are wild." @bbear50 expressed, "My toddler daughter is blonde hair and blue-eyed. It’s honestly uncomfortable the amount of men who comment on her looks." @janetshilaire777 said, "A grown consenting man also called my 4-year-old daughter pretty, then asked me how much I would take for her...My response...Your life."
