An Australian mom breastfeeding her kids has stirred up a wild uproar on the internet. On July 28, 2026, Winona Wyborn (@winona_wyborn), a mom of three, posted a video while talking about her 'tandem breastfeeding' journey online, where she was feeding her newborn alongside her 2-year-old son. As soon as her post went viral, the comment section quickly turned against her. From strangers who have never nursed a baby to moms who think a two-year-old is too old to be breastfed, a concoction of opposing remarks came out. A beautiful video with over 490,000 views made for a baby products brand, BareMum, has become the center of a heated online debate.

The intense backlash

In the clip, Wyborn said she has been tandem feeding her babies for the past four years. Although she agrees that some moms don’t prefer feeding their babies beyond a year, it’s her personal choice to do so. "When I had my first baby, I never imagined that I would have 3 so close together, and so tandem feeding had never crossed my mind. But for me, nothing is more important than nourishing my babies with my milk, and so it was always going to be this way," she explained. Moreover, Wyborn confessed breastfeeding makes her feel overstimulated, but despite challenges, she takes care of herself by maintaining her nutrition. Notably, Wyborn conceived her youngest child when her son was just seven months old, which made her journey even more challenging.

For those unaware, tandem nursing refers to "the practice of breastfeeding two or more children of different ages such as a newborn and an older toddler, either simultaneously or sequentially," according to Kidspot. Neglecting both physical and emotional benefits of tandem breastfeeding, people called out Wyborn for "exposing" herself. In fact, many called her “disgusting” and “attention seeking," for posting a video while feeding her babies.

'I didn't expect it'

In conversation with News.com.au, she said that the hateful comments were totally unanticipated. "I expected that people would find it either interesting… or that they’d find it inspiring. It actually never crossed my mind that people would find it ‘gross’," Wyborn explained. Moreover, she said she was sad to see the hateful response towards something as natural as breastfeeding. “Deep down, you know what is best for your children; it’s our God-given gift, our motherly intuition. People who project their insecurities are acting from a place of hurt and disconnect," she added.

Even doctors agree

The National Center for Health Statistics claims that nearly 4 million infants are born each year in the United States. Of these, around 40.8% are fed through their first year, according to the CDC. Just like Wyborn, doctors also agree that it is perfectly valid to continue to breastfeed one’s child until they are 2 years or older. Breastfeeding is extremely important for protecting babies' immune systems and fulfilling their nutritional needs. As Healthy Children explains, breastfeeding a toddler beyond one year also provides emotional reassurance and validation, which helps them to manage their emotions later in life.

'Breastfeeding one is intense, 2 is just wow'

While some viewers called out the Australian mom in the comments, others praised her for sharing her journey. For instance, @wildnwell.counselling commented, “Keep showing us your insanely beautiful feeding journey, lovely. I think only breastfeeding mummies can really understand what it takes to do this. Breastfeeding one is intense, 2 is just wow. A huge sacrifice and unbelievable offering to your babies."
