The holiday season is all about spending time with your near and dear ones. However, this time of the year is also a painful reminder of what holidays used to be for many. One mom named Michelle—known on TikTok as @kygirl1974—took to the platform to talk about how the holiday season is no longer exciting for her as she is now a mother of grownup kids.

In the video, the woman explained how she felt through a few overlay texts that appeared on a decorated Christmas tree. "As a mom of adult kids, you realize the magic of Christmas is gone," read the first text. She reflected on the things that were once true but are no longer present in her life, like the excitement of putting up the tree. "No one is excited about putting up the tree," one text said. She also expressed how she missed tucking her kids in early because of Santa. "No one to make go to bed early because of Santa," she wrote. "No one to wake me up at 3 am begging to see if Santa came," she added. Lastly, the mom urged every parent to cherish the holiday season while it lasts. "Moms of little ones, cherish the chaos, one day it will be gone and you'd give anything to get it back," Michelle shared.

Many took to the comment section to express how deeply the words she wrote resonated with them. "How I miss those days, but, my kids and grandkids have given me such special Christmas memories treasures of the heart I’ll carry with me forever," wrote @marci88028. "My kids are gone and on their own and I still love Xmas and putting up my tree as if they were kids again. I don’t care how old you are, the Magic of Xmas is still freshly there," added @shopnasmom. "So very true. Don't ever wish your kids to hurry up and be grown up. I would give anything for my kids to be little again," wrote @michellejameson11. The comment section was filled with mothers who expressed how much they missed the time spent with their children. "Sooooo true. I miss my kids when they were young, those were the best Christmas holidays. I put up the tree and there is no excitement. Plus I don’t have grandkids to even enjoy it, I have to put my tree up. It makes me feel good and has the holiday spirit," wrote @laundryqueen64

While the holiday season is a time of celebration for most, many people go through a rough patch, especially during this time of year. In another story, a single mom from Australia found herself caught in the midst of Perth's housing crisis after her landlord doubled the rent from $300 to $630 during the holiday season, pushing her and her 6-year-old son to the brink of homelessness. "My lease is up on the first of January. I’ve applied for houses and I’ve been getting rejected for all of them. There was another rental available that was also part of the NRAS scheme. If you transfer from one NRAS property to another, it doesn’t count as an existing tenant." Jakki Brooking (@jakkibrooking on TikTok) said in the video.
