Kids have different reactions to their first day at school. Some kids bawl their eyes out, while others are calm and even happy to go to school and make new friends. But it's also important to note that the first day of school can be a nerve-wracking experience for parents as well. As they watch their children embark on their academic journey, a mix of emotions overcome them.

TikTok user, @65lady posted a wholesome video of a mother who was having a hard time with sending her son off to school. The video went viral and was reposted on Reddit. We get to see the neighborhood kids come in and reassure the mother that they would look out for him. The video titled, "Mom is nervous about her son's first day of school and the neighborhood kids offer to protect him" has gained an impressive 2.2K upvotes on Reddit.

At the beginning of the video, we witness the mother in tears as she hugs her little boy before sending him off to school. As soon as the boy leaves the frame, another boy comes and hugs the crying mother to comfort her. The individual recording the video tells the other boy to "watch" the young boy.  Another boy also comes in and offers to look out for the kid, embracing the mother.

The individual can be heard saying that everybody deserves to have neighbors like that. The kids then walk and line up to wait for the school bus to arrive. People on TikTok and Reddit loved the video and shared their thoughts in the comments section. u/mydibz commented, "This is what's great about apartments. Sometimes your neighbor becomes family."

Another user, u/standbyyourmantis said, "Those older boys probably have younger siblings, they went straight into big brother mode and it is just so sweet. I'm glad they were there to comfort them." u/Dr-Lavish commented, "Love these videos. Truly heart warming." The boys truly offered the troubled mother some comfort with their words and actions. @jescc1 clarified, "Love what he said in Spanish: 'If someone touches him, I'll get them.' The other boy said, 'Me too.'"

The mother was right to be concerned about her little boy going to school with many schools facing the problem of bullying among children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bullying has become a major problem in the United States. The act has shown to have a negative effect on everybody involved, including kids who are bullied, the bullies themselves and those who witness bullying.

About 1 in 5 high school students reported that they were being bullied on school premises. An even more concerning statistic is the fact that 1 in 6 high school students reported being bullied through electronic means in the last year. Bullying is very harmful and can lead to physical injuries, and emotional distress and impact an individual's academic achievement. 

Individuals who engage in bullying others are vulnerable to substance abuse, academic challenges and exposure to violence in their adult life. Those who both perpetrate bullying and become victims themselves endure the most severe repercussions and are at a heightened risk of encountering mental health issues and behavioral difficulties. Bullying is a serious problem that requires a proper solution to ensure that school becomes a safe space for everyone.
