Mom heroically sacrifices herself to save her 9-month-old daughter from a stabber

As soon as a person becomes a parent, they would ideally protect the child before thinking about their well-being. Parents put their kids first and are ready to sacrifice anything in life for the sake of them. Ashlee Good, mom of a nine-month old child named Harriett, was one such mother who sacrificed her life to protect her daughter during the Sydney Stabbing incident, per BBC News. The incident took place in a shopping mall and Good managed to save her baby’s life, losing her own after the 40-year-old attacker ruthlessly stabbed her.

According to 9 News Australia, witnesses reported that Hariett was stabbed and before the attacker could do any more damage the mom quickly sprung into action. Having no other option, Good let her baby go into the arms of the stranger nearest to her before she was fatally stabbed. “The mum got stabbed and the mum came over with the baby and threw it at me,” the man said. “I just helped out, just holding the baby and trying to compress the baby, and same with the mother, trying to compress the blood from stopping and calling the ambulance and police,” he added.

The baby was also seriously injured but underwent surgery and is doing well. The family is bereaved and inconsolable but is grateful that the baby is alive. “Today we are reeling from the terrible loss of Ashlee, a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, partner, friend, all-round outstanding human and so much more,’’ one of the family members said. The family also thanked people for their overwhelming support, prayers and wishes for little Harriet. While they deeply miss and mourn the loss of Good, they are looking forward to the baby’s recovery.

Sky News reporter Laura Jayes commended the mother for her sacrifice. “I didn’t know the others, but I knew one. I can tell you that it was a mother, a mother in the prime of her life, a new mother with a nine-month-old baby. She’s a beautiful woman. Her baby went into surgery and her mum didn’t make it. That is really hard news to take. She was so smart, so beautiful and it was all ripped away in seconds,” she said live on air. An Australian News outlet reported that Good was rushed to the hospital shortly after her brutal attack, but she passed away soon after arriving.

“We can report that after hours of surgery yesterday, our baby is currently doing well. We are so grateful for the expert care and attention of the medical team at Sydney Children’s Hospital,” they added. They also thanked the strangers who got hold of the baby after Good attempted to send her to a stranger and save her life. “To the two men who held and cared for our baby when Ashlee could not–words cannot express our gratitude. We are struggling to come to terms with what has occurred,” they said. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Harriet and her family, especially for the 9-month-old’s recovery and treatment.
